Animal Webaction visited the site 11 July 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"The number of puppies at the shelter has increased a lot lately. People constantly call me to tell me they found abandoned puppies thrown away in a bag, on the road, in the forest... It simply never stops. These past few days, I rescued 15 puppies from Targu-Jiu, 300km away, and I've already been called about other puppies just now...
People here do not approve of sterilization, so when born, they either abandon the puppies on the streets, or kill them...To add to the situation, donations have significantly decreased because this time of year, people go on holidays and they are not so focused on donating to shelters.
I have 3 bags of kibble left, which should be enough for the next couple of days... I feel tired and discouraged, I give my best to provide enough food for them, but it's getting so tough that sometimes I feel like giving up. I need this campaign to succeed to be able to feed all these puppies that count on me."
"I take care of the shelter, rescue puppies, feed them, take them to the vet and provide food, I do everything on my own... But unfortunately, due to the increasing number of abandoned puppies and lack of funding, I've already had to start giving them lesser quality food, which I cannot buy in sufficient quantity. Some of the puppies have digestive problems and diarrhea...
Every single puppy that I rescue from the streets is sick and if I'm not able to feed them, they won't be able to stand it. A prolonged lack of food would also mean that I wouldn't be able to rescue more abandoned puppies or afford vet emergencies. This really worries me...
My rescue is needed here because no one in this area takes care of abandoned animals, who are always more numerous, because people are against sterilization...I truly hope I can save more animals, but to achieve that, the most important thing is to have food."
"Tinkerbell is 6-8 weeks old, I rescued her together with her sister, Chloe, on the 28th of June. From 4 puppies, these 2 were the only ones who survived. Despite this blessing, Tinkerbell was in very poor condition when we found her, she was very skinny and had internal and external parasites.
Like all the other newcomers, Tinkerbell is recovering at this moment, she is under treatment. She still has a very low immunity and some skin issues. Being able to feed her is paramount, so she can maximise her chances to survive and achieve a complete recovery."
"Many shelters and associations face difficult problems at the moment, and I am no exception. I used to receive some donations and sponsorships but ever since the pandemic started, it has become really hard to raise donations and receive fundings.
It gets harder and harder for me to manage the shelter and afford to buy everything that is necessary, especially because the number of abandoned puppies is exploding.
I have to pay huge amounts of money on treatments, vitamins, surgeries... I am indebted to the vets, and haven't been able to pay for the latest procedures, because I had to prioritize food. It's difficult to manage when you don't get enough help...Food is always the most important thing, it's my biggest problem and worry."
"I moved to Victoria and established my association in 2020 after spending 20 years saving animals in Bucharest. Ever since I arrived here, I managed to rescue 200 dogs, and lead sterilization programs : 305 dogs were sterilized last year and 300 this year so far.
I am also very proud to say that I found families for many many dogs. For instance, since the beginning of the year we've already had 200 dogs adopted. Despite my hard work, my actions are not perceived very well, I get a lot of reclamations from the locals who complain about the noise...
The municipality doesn't help me either, because they don't have enough interest in this cause. It's really hard for me to manage on my own, but these puppies give me strength and motivation to continue doing this even when it gets really hard and when I feel that everything is against my cause."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I recently started collaborating with 2 associations abroad, they help me towards adoptions and vet costs, but despite this support, I still don't have enough funds to cover the day-to-day and emergency expenses. Fundraising doesn't work at the moment, in 3 weeks, we only managed to raise 200 euros, which is not even half of what is needed.
I am overwhelmed by the costs and number of abandoned animals. I do my best to provide for the puppies but I am on my own and I truly need some help. I really hope that people will eventually become more interested in animal welfare and join our cause."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The organizer doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
