Animal Webaction visited the site 28 July 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I look after more than 80 cats in different neighbourhoods. Their numbers have increased as a result of the pandemic, and even more so now during the holiday season. These cats are left to fend for themselves on the streets, where they suffer. Many of them die in accidents, attacks or from starvation. I do my best to take care of them, but I don't have the money...
The cats already don't get enough to eat, they are always at my door waiting for food. For a few days now, I've been rationing their portions because I'm about to run out of kibble. I only have one bag left...
The stress is eating away at me and ruining my life, I'm always thinking about how hard it is to find kibble. I feel great despair for these animals, I hate to see them in this state..."
"If I don't find more kibble soon, I will have to stop feeding most of the cats. I will only be able to feed the ones in my own neighbourhood, and I won't be able to help any new cats in distress, unfortunately.
There are already consequences of the lack of food, the cats are getting infections more frequently these days. They won't find food on their own, I'm afraid their health will deteriorate even more because of the lack of kibble... and they might starve to death."
"Réo is only two months old, and he has already been through some terrible things... He was living in a dumpster, until someone set fire to it. Réo's paws and eyes were burned. I took him to the vet, where he received treatment, but he has permanently lost his sight in one eye.
He lives in a secure car park now... unfortunately I don't have the space and resources to take him in. He is very, very fearful, and suffers from hyper-sweating. He is also very skinny, and in dire need of more vitamins and protein.
I fear that he will contract infections because he is so vulnerable. It is essential for his survival that I am able to give him kibble."
"I don't have a steady income, I only sell pet accessories to earn money. My actions therefore depend on donations and the support by people. Unfortunately, the donations are still very low since the pandemic, because people are still in crisis.
I am in a vicious circle... At the moment I owe the vet 600 euros, which I am unable to pay. At the same time, there are more and more cats abandoned as a result of the pandemic – just this week, there were three new ones in my neighbourhood.
The lack of help and resources is affecting my service and action a lot. In a nutshell, I am inundated by debts, my cats are increasingly ill, I am lost in all these problems. I can't cope on my own..."
"I started feeding the stray cats in Temara in 2014. I have been sacrificing all my time, energy, and money for the well-being of these cats.
My actions are crucial because I feed the stray cats, I care for them, I vaccinate them.... I fight for the well-being of these cats and to ensure them a good life. In my presence, no one can harm them."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I have a page on Facebook dedicated to the cats in my care, 'Action Akwa, Temara', where I post updates and offer cats for adoption. I have also tried online fundraising, but unfortunately it didn't work, I never managed to raise the necessary amount.
The association Straycare International supports my actions, they mainly help me pay the vet bills. But for the kibble, I really depend on this campaign. I have no other collaborations, and there are too many cats to feed, I don't have the necessary means."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
