Animal Webaction visited the site 01 August 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"At the moment, we are taking care of 35 dogs at the shelter, and 6 at my house, as dogs who need to be treated cannot be taken to the shelter. The number is fluctuating, because as soon as we manage to have dogs adopted from our shelter, others immediately take their place. We indeed constantly take dogs out from the pound, where they are not only not treated well, but also eventually euthanised after a regulatory period. In 2021 alone, we managed to save 112 dogs so far.
However, this requires a lot of resources which we do not have, we don't have any fund left right now, and we only have kibbles for a bit more than one week at this stage. I'm incredibly worried, because when you don't have food, what do you do ? My main concern is the aggression that can be generated by the lack of food, when they do not have food they become aggressive with each other, and fight for any piece of food left...
For all of us this would mean a lot of suffering, trauma, this means that the years of work in which we have been successful have changed into an unwanted area, where we would feel helpless, i don't even want to imagine being in that situation."
"In June, 69 dogs have been confiscated from a farm in town, where people were collecting them and keeping them in terrible conditions. They were taken to the pound, with a regulatory period of 45 days that just ended. They are not fed properly and kept in packs of 6/7 dogs, so fights between them are common, they do not receive enough water, they lack affection, medical attention, they are scared, two of them have already died.
We cannot take them all in at once, we don't have enough place, we can only take 15 more dogs to the shelter right now. We've already arranged for the transport and adoption of several of them, as well as some already in our shelter, for mid-august, so we can take new ones in then.
We have just been told that they wouldn't be put down for the moment, but still if we don't get them out of there rapidly we don't know what will happen to them afterwards, they must be rescued. In order to save as many dogs as possible, we must ensure an adequate amount of food."
"Dannerys was brought in at the pound by her master with her 7 newborn puppies. It is sad really, because instead of sterilizing her, he preferred to abandon her with the puppies.
I took them to the shelter last April, the puppies grew up with us, and left for France to get adopted a few days ago. But Dannerys is still with us at the shelter for the time being, and needs us to keep her safe until she, in turn, gets adopted."
"First, the pandemic has made things harder for us. It has greatly affected the connection between devotees, we used to receive more donations, and we didn't have so many puppies before either. Also, people were not willing to actively help, we don´t really have a volunteer, we have a man who is cleaning and feeding the dogs once per day but we are paying him for this job.
The additional amount of dogs to rescue implies heavy costs as well, as the fees are very high for taking the dogs over from the public shelter, and then we have to provide them food, treatments, sterilizations, vaccines etc... We also had to fund some work at the shelter to build additional pens, and keep saving as many dogs as possible.
I can donate only as much as my pocket allows, it is not financially possible for us to support food for the number of dogs that need to be rescued."
"The association started in 2009, our first activity was the sterilization of the surrounding dogs. I have had years in which I sterilized over 100 dogs, 100% of my own funds from my pocket and from my friends. Later I found out that there is a pound where I saw terrible images of how dogs are treated there and that motivated me to take this path.
As long as I am here, will do my best to rescue as many dogs as possible. I am sure that my work and involvment for years to save these helpless souls is worth it."

"Foreign associations have been very supportive, especially as far as the placement of dogs is concerned, to be able to take a maximum of them out, and get them adopted. We received some food help from an English association as well, but that is to keep the dogs fed at the pound, it is not enough for our shelter. Foreigners also supported us for the construction work of the shelter, which is sorely needed.
Here locally, there is theoretically goodwill, but when you run into situations where financial involvement is needed, there is no support. There are also many people who are emotionally involved but financial resources do not allow them to support us. This campaign is our hope to be able to keep going, and save all these poor doggies."
