Animal Webaction visited the site 12 August 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Street cats are left to fend for themselves, living in the dirt and garbage and risking their lives every day. The likelihood of them catching diseases or infections is considerable, and beyond that, they are also very vulnerable because the local population is hostile to them. Abandonments are excessive and cats are regularly poisoned, or deliberately ran over by cars...
My mother and I feed a hundred cats in the neighborhoods near our home. It's a lot of work for only 2 people, but beyond the lack of manpower, what we lack the most is financial resources... We receive no help and donations are non-existent since the beginning of the pandemic...
It is very difficult to buy kibble, we have been forced to ration the cats for 2 weeks already and today, we only have one bag of kibble left... If we don't manage to find kibble soon, we fear that the health of the street cats, already very fragile, will continue to deteriorate... It would be a nightmare."
"Mimi was born in the street. We don't know her story but her condition has deteriorated very quickly in the last few weeks, we think she was a victim of intoxication or poisoning...
She used to be very social but since she got sick her behavior has changed a lot, she has become very fearful and shy, we could hardly take her picture without her escaping.
She is the most vulnerable cat in the neighborhood, she has a very poor health, a skeletal body, she suffers from diarrhea too. She needs good food to be able to recover and regain her strength, because the vet's treatment alone will not be enough."
"We care for 45 cats in our home, and for 60 cats placed in a now empty hotel compound. They are spread out in such a way because we don't have enough room to house them all in our home. Our ultimate goal is to build a spacious shelter to have them all in one place and we are doing everything we can to achieve this.
But right now, our priority is to be able to feed them all and it is a daily struggle. We have a small treasury that does not allow us to take care of everything given the explosion in the number of cats in need in recent years.
I fear that this problem will have an impact on our actions, I don't want the lack of kibble to deprive our cats of their right to health... They only have our association to help them, we can't let them down! I hope with all my heart that this collection will succeed, because we sorely need it."
"Before Covid-19, we could afford to buy kibble without asking for help thanks to my mother who is employed in a theater. But since the pandemic and until now, the activities at the theater have stopped and we are in great financial difficulty.
We are unfortunately not the only ones struggling, here in Morocco many people are going through very difficult times and therefore the donations we receive are almost non-existent. We had to contract debts with 3 veterinarians and with the food suppliers.
We can no longer buy kibble because of the lack of means and the suppliers now also refuse to give us credit. We have even had to put our house up for sale to try to pay off our debts... We really need this collection, the survival of the cats depends on it!"
"The love of animals was passed on to me by my mother and has never left me. We started to get involved together as volunteers in the association ADAN Rabat in 2013 and then continued alone and created the association Phoenix (of which my mother is the president) in September 2019. Our goal is to put up for adoption, care, sterilize and socialize street cats and dogs.
We would like to create a shelter that will meet the needs of cats and dogs in the city, where we could set up a space for emergency cases, with a veterinarian on site. We are in the process of contacting foreign organizations to see if they can help us complete this project. There is still a long way to go but we will not give up, despite the many obstacles that face us!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"We are doing our best to get help and fund our actions by posting on our page, but we are not getting any donations. Online fundraising through other platforms doesn't work either. The only time we received help was in kind, but unfortunately it was not enough.
Despite our numerous attempts, no organization has ever answered our emails; and even the municipality of Harhoura, which had promised us subsidies when we created our association, has let us down. When I think of all these difficulties, I feel a huge sadness...
We greatly need this collection to be able to continue to help the cats, and to save others...Even small contributions can make a difference!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
