Animal Webaction visited the site 19 August 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"The situation in Dar Bouazza is catastrophic, there are dogs everywhere, unfortunately I can't save nor treat them all. I feed them without counting them at this stage, there are at least 80 of them spread over different areas, I spay and neuter as many as I can. I do my best to ensure that the help I provide remains unaffected, but I can only take in the most fragile dogs in an emergency situation in my shelter.
I give them bread and kibble which I ration, I only have 20 bags of kibble left, and I can't buy more because my association is in complete crisis. I am overwhelmed with debt and the stress of not being able to find a solution to feed these dogs. Thinking about the animals I won't be able to help gets me depressed and tears me apart.
I'm afraid of the future, I don't know if I'll be able to continue helping abandoned animals, this campaign is my only shred of hope."
"I found Rocky about a month ago, he is a young dog under a year old. I can't take him to the shelter because he has scabies and I won't be able to isolate him, he might infect other dogs, and I don't have enough room.
Despite the injections he is receiving to fight scabies, his condition is improving very slowly, he is very weak, and needs to eat well for his health to improve."
"The number of dogs has increased too much, both on the streets and at the shelter. Recently I took in 17 dogs who had been left to die on a farm, despite all the financial constraints my shelter and I have, they had no other option.
The dogs in my shelter are doing better now, thanks to the latest Animal Webaction fundraiser, I don't know what would have happened to my shelter without those kibble. Scabies had invaded the whole shelter, I couldn't get the dogs to heal, they were all fragile and vulnerable... these kibbles saved our lives.
Today, I am afraid that their health will deteriorate again because I have almost no kibble left, I can't even think about the fate of my dogs if this campaign fails, with the crisis that my association is currently experiencing."
"Layka is a street dog that I rescued in a very thin state, and unfortunately her condition is not getting any better, she is skeletal.
She is a very timid dog, who often stays isolated, and she suffers from a mammary abscess that needs to be drained. She absolutely must receive enough protein and vitamins to regain her strength."
"Donations are still in decline, of the few people who used to donate to us, many have stopped because they have themselves been affected by the crisis. And adoptions are still non-existent.
At the same time, the debts have accumulated... I still haven't paid the shelter keeper who does the work of two keepers, I have debts to the vet, others for the car etc... My shelter depends on donations and adoptions, without that the future is uncertain.
I feel a real despair, I am alone to fight for them, I do my best to keep the shelter going but the situation remains the same despite all my efforts. I feel sorry for these dogs, they deserve a much better life."
"I have sacrificed my money, my time and my energy for this shelter, to save it from bankruptcy, to go and feed the street dogs and save the dogs in distress, for more than 10 years without any government help.
I feel a great despair for these animals, I don't like to see them in this state, I try to do my best to ensure them a good life. I welcome them in my shelter and offer them the necessary care, I also look for a family to adopt them and give them the tenderness and love they need. We also organise sterilisation and vaccination campaigns for stray dogs.
We need people's support because the shelter depends mostly on donations, without the help of donors I would have been forced to close the shelter a long time ago. I encourage everyone to support us if they can, without you our shelter is worth absolutely nothing."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.
"The situation remains the same, I receive help from Jessy's company to pay part of the rent, and donations of kibble from Royal Canin from time to time, but that's where it ends, even if I still hope to find sponsors and associations to help me and these dogs.
With the crisis, restaurants that used to give leftovers to feed the dogs have started to sell them... I only found one restaurant that agreed to give me leftover bread for free, which I'm already very happy about considering the circumstances.
Online fundraising doesn't work, I just have a few donors who send me small amounts directly to the association's account, for which I am infinitely grateful. My biggest fear is that this campaign will fail, or that the few people who are helping me will eventually let me down."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund.
