"There are currently 97 innocent souls living in my shelter, who have all been saved from terrible predicaments. I brought them here to give them a better life, that is the purpose of my shelter. But with so many dogs and only a small pension to cover their needs, it's very difficult.
I've set up a Facebook page with the help of a girl who supports my shelter, but our fundraising attempts are not successful, donations are very low, practically inexistent, in the last 3 months, I've had absolutely no help. I can no longer provide for them and it's killing me...
There's nothing worse than not having food to give them because they aren't able to understand it. The dogs need to be fed and they expect it. A man can work alone, make money for himself, say what he needs... a dog cannot. They are completely dependent on me and I can't fail them, I couldn't bear it... I am placing all my hopes in good people who love animals and I am praying that his campaign succeeds."
"The lack of food or bad quality food has a bad effect on the dogs' health. They get diarrhea, they lose weight, they are more prone to catching diseases... Changes can also be seen in their behavior when they are hungry and with so many dogs in one place, it can cause aggression.
If I don't get food, my dogs' lives will be endangered and I will feel responsible for everything that happens to them... Not to mention, there are countless of other dogs on the streets who need help and no one besides me is willing to step up and help.
People in the area refuse to spay or neuter their animals, but when they reproduce, they don't hesitate to abandon them without even thinking twice. It is just wrong...If I don't find a solution to get food, I honestly don't know what will happen to them. Having this campaign succeed would not only save my dogs, but also allow me to bring other dogs that need help. It's absolutely vital."
"Sarka was dumped in front of the shelter along with 2 other puppies. She contracted canine distemper as a puppy, this disease affects the gastrointestinal, respiratory, skin, immune, and central nervous systems. Among the 3 of them, she's the only one who survived it...
She's lucky to be alive today, but unfortunately the disease is causing her to be extremely skinny, and makes her body twitch constantly. She eats very slowly because her head and mouth are constantly moving. She can't get food from the other dominant dogs, because by the time she's had one bite, the others have already finished their meal...
We've tried every type of medication with her, but nothing works, her condition won't improve. If I don't find a solution to get food soon, her weight will probably get worse and it will certainly lead to other problems, problems I don't even dare to think about..."
"People here look down upon me for running this shelter, yet I am still seeing dogs being dropped at my door on a regular basis... And with more dogs, the cost of veterinarians and food increases by a lot while my options for help just always seem to shrink...
I do not receive any help from other associations and organizations. I sometimes get a little help from people of good will and soul, who bring a bag of kibble, but these are very rare situations. I try to finance both food and the vet with my pension money, but it's unfortunately insufficient.
The number of dogs in need is constantly growing, and I can't sit there and watch it happen, I just can't. These animals are not guilty of anything, they did not deserve to be kicked and left on the street. I wish I could help every single one of them, but I can no longer do it, because I can't provide them with enough food.... It's heartbreaking."
"I lived in Australia and did not come to Serbia for a long time. When I came here on vacation in 2016 and saw the situation with street dogs in Serbia, I was shocked and very unpleasantly surprised... I felt the need to come help them.
I bought this house in Drazevac in 2019 and since then I bring new dogs from the street every day and take care of them. It makes me happy and I feel that saving them is what I need to do. Unfortunately people from the area look very negatively at the shelter I run, they often condemn me for having a dog shelter and for being so deeply emotionally connected to these animals, they just don't understand it.
It think it's important that people wake up and raise their awareness about such issues. If everyone cared at least a little about dogs, they would live a much better life in this country."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I ask for help through social networks but ever since the pandemic started, I have had fewer and fewer donations. I contacted various organisations but I never received help or even an explanation as to why they were not able to help.
One Austrian organisation did reply, and said they did not have enough funds to help. Right now my only hope is for this campaign to succeed so I can feed my dogs. I also hope that there will be more adoptions in the near future, a loving and caring family is what these dogs ultimately need."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
