Animal Webaction visited the site 30 August 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Our shelter is the only one in the area, we take in dogs from all surroundings cities : Ada, Senta, Backa Topola, Mol… We take the most urgent cases : puppies, dogs who were ran over, dogs that are injured, sick...
Given their vulnerability, food, is the most important thing for these dogs, along with special care. Of course, we have many different needs at the shelter, maintenance and repairing of the kennels for example, but these things can be postponed. We can't postpone feeding the dogs... it's a matter of survival for them.
We do our best to feed them all but we are lacking resources : donations are low and so is my personal budget. At the moment, we have around 50 kilos of kibble, it will last a couple of days only. I'm really worried that my dogs will end up malnourished and eventually sick. I can't just sit here and watch it happen... That is why I am asking for your help!"
"My heart hurts because there are dogs on the streets that I can’t take in at the moment. For instance, there is a Labrador, and three smaller dogs at the town pool… In Mol there are also many dogs waiting for us…
Unfortunately we can't take them in because we lack space and resources, but above all, we lack food. I think about them all the time. I couldn’t sleep a few nights ago, because I was worried, they're constantly on my mind.
I worry that they won't find anything to eat.. ... Winter's imminent arrival worries me even further. This kibble campaign would help us save many poor souls who need a better life. Please, help us help them."
"We found Trixie right outside our shelter about a month ago. She was full of ticks and absolutely frightened, so much so that she peed herself and even refused to eat. We don't know what happened to her for her to be in such a state of distress.
Her morale has now got slightly better, she not as fearful with us as she used to be, she is slowly recovering. Trixi suffers from Demodex, for that she needs nutritious and regular amounts of food, on top of her treatment. Without food, her alredy fragile health will likely worsen."
"Most of the dogs we rescue have special conditions that require expensive treatment and care. Some dogs have serious health problems like heartworms, and to treat it is very expensive. Out of 20 new dogs we recently rescued, 12 of them had heartworms...
Our veterinary costs are huge, we are indebted to the vets. At the beginning, myself and the activists were funding everything, but as our rescue got bigger, so did the expenses. We receive a small yearly subsidy from the municipality, and we have a few sponsors for our dogs.
We're grateful for anyone who helps us, but unfortunately we have to admit that the help we receive is not sufficient to cover all the costs, and our personal resources aren't either... There is just not enough money. We need help to procure food for our dogs, that's the number 1 priority."
"People consider that it is our obligation to remove dogs from the streets. Many call us to take the dogs they no longer want, either they are traveling, or they don’t need the big dog anymore, or the dog has ran away, and they are not looking for them… Some say that the dog scratched the child, so they don’t want it anymore – even though the dog was just playing…
Unfortunately, people are the biggest problem. Perhaps it is not wise to say, but if there were more animals than humans, there wouldn’t be so many problems like these. Humans can be irresponsible, with no heart. In addition, if the exising laws about the chipping of animals were enforced, I believe there wouldn’t be so many abandoned dogs.
The local authorities promised to donate 600 chips last year, but somehow they forgot about that promise…We really need help to continue our fight for the many abandoned dogs of the region, we're their only hope."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Sometimes people find dogs and when we pick them up, they buy a few bags of kibble for them. These gestures are very nice, but unfortunately very rare. I'm always fighting to get help for the dogs, I have gone to local municipality many, many times; from door to door and visiting companies, asking for donations. I've been through all kinds of situations...
To be honest, sometimes I feel uncomfortable to ask for more food donation, but I can't stop, because the dogs need to eat. We rely on the donations of good people and organizations to be able to buy food. The last time we receive the kibble from Animal Webaction, the dogs were so happy!! We really hope we can benefit from your help again this time, it's all the dogs need to go through their hardships."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
