Animal Webaction visited the site 28 September 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, the 802 dogs of Michele's shelters will soon run out of kibble. They will starve if no one helps them!

%%%

"We have over 800 dogs in our three shelters, plus the dogs we help outside. We do our best to rescue the youngest and/or most vulnerable dogs, but our shelters are full and our budget is way overrun.

With so many dogs to feed, our food bills are huge. Each month it costs us several thousand euros for food alone, and the cost has risen recently. Our current stock of kibble will run out in 10 days, and we can't carry on caring for so many dogs and feeding them all without everyone's help, we desperately need help."

2. Elderly and already emaciated, Jacky is too weak to resist the lack of food, he would not survive in case of a kibble shortage.

###

"Jacky used to be a street dog, he is ageing and quite weak. It is essential that he gets enough to eat not only to prevent his condition from deteriorating, but also to ensure that other dogs are not a threat to him.

We still have large groups of dogs, ensuring they get enough kibble is crucial, if the dogs are hungry they will also start fighting, weak dogs like Jacky wouldn't stand a chance.

We do our best, things are not perfect, but every rescue, every adoption, every act of compassion makes a difference for these poor dogs. Our priority is to make sure that every one of them has food, water, care and protection."

3. Because of health problems that cannot be ignored, Michèle cannot find kibble at that stage and urgently needs help to sustain the shelter.

"I have been very, very very tired for months now, and I've had to leave Morocco recently for health reasons. The management of the shelters is still in the hands of my wonderful team, who make sure that all the animals are well (Editor's note: we conducted the visit with Larbi, Michèle's right-hand man at the shelters).

But I am the one who finds funding for the shelter, and I might be weakened for some time now... We don't have enough donations as it is, the situation is very complicated and extremely stressful. These dogs need you to help them."

4. With donations barely covering 40% of its needs, the association is in dire straits and cannot buy more kibble.

###

"We don't get a lot of donations, but we make sure we do the best we can with what we get, every penny is used to feed or care for the animals, and every penny helps make a difference.

The problem is that with so many animals, the expenses are enormous, food, care, vaccines... And it's not just when the dogs are rescued, each and every one of them has to eat every day that he spends at the shelter, many need chronic treatments, we're going to have to re-vaccinate all the dogs against rabies soon, we can't skip that. And we do a lot of rescues, so it also means additional vaccinations, sterilisations etc...

We don't get any government help, and are really facing our limits, we absolutely need help to survive."

5. Michèle is not asking to receive any money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"When I created the association Le Coeur sur la Patte, it was to work with the municipality of Agadir to sterilise and vaccinate street dogs in order to eradicate rabies and control their population. At the time, I only had a dispensary that could accommodate 80 dogs. At the beginning of 2018, the authorities decided that all the dogs had to be taken off the streets, everything was done very quickly, and we had no choice but to set up our shelters to take them in.

Since then we have continued to take dogs off the streets when their presence is no longer accepted, and we rescue animals that are injured or at risk of being killed. The municipal pound is not designed to keep a large number of dogs in good conditions, we are sad about this situation and do our best to help these animals too.

I dedicate my house, my life, and all my energy to animals. I have no choice but to carry on for all those who need me, but I desperately need help feeding them."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Michele will not receive any money but 4500 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. The search for partners and multiple calls for donations are not enough to fund the kibble for the many dogs of the shelters, Michèle is counting on this campaign.

"We are giving these dogs a true second chance, I am working hard to get them adopted as much as possible. We have had 42 adoptions in the last two and a half months, despite Covid, adoptions are very active with Europe and will also resume with Canada when the borders reopen. We also receive help from a Swiss organisation for sterilisations.

Many things are also changing here in Morocco, the inhabitants are putting water in the streets for stray animals, they report animals in distress, when they entrust you with an animal they come to check on it, etc. Things are moving forward, we can see the difference. And I'm also hopeful that the TNRV programme (sterilisation, vaccination and release of stray dogs) can really take off again.

We're getting real results, but every month is a struggle, and it gets more difficult even with my health problems. If every member of our community gave just 5 euros a month, it could pay our food bills, but we are far from it."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many dogs remain starving on the street!

If you know of a foundation or NGO that could help Michele, please invite them to contact us so that we can put them in touch.

If you represent a Foundation or an NGO for animal protection, please help Michele's dogs, contact us and we will put you in touch!
