Animal Webaction visited the site 29 September 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Sometimes it feels like the number of dogs is never decreasing, but we have to keep fighting because we are literally the only ones in Prijedor saving them. Unfortunately, we're experiencing a lack of donations and adoptions that is greatly impacting us.
Right now, we only have enough food for the next couple of days, and no solution in sight...We desperately need this action to succeed to continue caring for the 400 souls who rely on us...
If we do not find a way to secure food for them, the dogs at the shelter might get in fights and hurt each other. Food is also the only way for the many weak, sick and injured dogs we recently took in to fully recover."
"We've recently gained access to the local kill shelter. There are 120 dogs there at the moment, they're all kept in the same crowded room, regardless of their size, age, behaviour etc. They give them a total of 10kg of food a day and they fight for it, the weaker and smaller get killed or hurt by the bigger ones. Lots of them die of malnurishment, starvation, get killed by each other.
The dogs we saved from there are in terrible shape – both physically and mentally. Most of them are distrustful, starved, malnourished, depressed, have some chronical illnesses etc. Now that they're with us, the only comfort they get is knowing that they will have food to eat, because they didn’t have that while they were at the pound.
I've been crying and having many sleepless nights, questioning if we will be able to secure a new stock of food for them. It's essential that we find a solution if we want to continue caring for them and give them a chance to recover."
"Wolfie is yet another dog who was destined to get killed in the local death shelter. His owners left him there to die. He was living there for a while without enough water, food, sleeping in mixture of feces, urine and blood with eyes full of sorrow.
When I came there to rescue some dogs, he just climbed up on me as if he told me ‘Save me from this hell’. So I took him to our shelter. He was just a bag of bones when he arrived - malnourished, starved, with low immunity. Step by step, we are trying to provide him the best care and return him to normal state of mind and body.
He is a gentle, sweet and curious dog but unfortunately if he doesn’t get enough food his state will deteriorate again and he won’t make it..."
"People usually donate when they see a dog in particularly bad shape but we don’t have steady donations on which we could rely to not have to worry for basic things such as food, vet costs etc. I live with the constant fear that some day we will not be able to provide enough food, vet care or any care whatsoever.
Now more than ever, we are very worried and wondering if we will be able to save all the dogs that need our help. We give our best to rescue every dog, we try to stay focused and strong but the lack of resources and finances is having a huge impact on our abilities right now. We have so many expenses that we are not able to do more.
The lives and well-being of countless left-behind dogs rely on us and it would break our hearts if we weren't able to find a solution to secure a new stock of kibble for them. We desperately need this action to succeed..."
"I have been an animal activist since 2013. I first managed to form a temporary shelter for 5 years and then I decided to create this permanent solution. This type of work is very stressful, sometimes I get hopeless, seeing what people are capable to do to another being...
Here people still have the primitive opinion that dogs are no better that things, we try to make them realize they are God’s creatures, sentient beings with a wide range of emotions. And above all, we try to teach them that they indeed are people’s best friends.
If people need help with curing, spaying and neutering or any other help we try to help as much as we can. Also, when local people come and see what we do and how we do it, when they see so many happy faces, they start to think differently about dogs and ownership. These iniatives are hugely important for us and it's a blessing when we see we are actually making a difference."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We have very few donators and they usually donate for particular cases. Very few people decide to donate for food or everyday expenses such as fuel, medicines, dewormers, spot-ons etc. But these things are extremely important to be able to run the shelter effectively.
We're lucky enough to receive the help from another organisation, they help us with vet bills and adoptions. Unfortunately, adoptions have been very rare these past few months. We've never had so many dogs and the expenses are accumulating.
We've trying contacting other organisations, but whenever we do so, we get either no response at all or we get told that they cannot help. Unfortunately, no man is an island. We are all part of one great community and if we want to make a change, other people need to support and help otherwise, nothing can be achieved. That's why we desperately need this campaign to be a success this time around."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
