Animal Webaction visited the site 16 October 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I recently had to rescue a lot of endangered dogs and puppies from the street. On top of these rescues, many people have left and continue to leave, dogs they want to get rid of right in front of the shelter's doors...The number of dogs in my shelter has greatly increased as a result.
Unfortunately I don’t have enough food for all of them, I have already been forced to reduce their portions for a few days. It is better than nothing but none of my dogs can endure a prolonged lack of food, they're here because they're the most vulnerable, sick, old, disabled dogs, puppies...
I find it hard to bear situations when I am powerless to help, but all I can do is keep trying, that's why I am turning to you. I'm not ashamed to say we desperately need some help..."
"Dogs are becoming more nervous due to the lack of food and when there are many of them in one place like it's the case at my shelter, when they are all aggressive, it is not easy...I am worried, wondering about how I will feed them so they do not hurt each other. Hunger is a passionate thing; a matter of existence...
Having food would help the dogs be calmer during the cold days, it would keep them from harm. It would also prevent them from getting sick and become even more vulnerable than they already are. With the cold, the dogs' health can deteriorate very quickly...Food is absolutely essential to keep them warm and healthy. This campaign would feed my hungry dogs and save their lives!"
"Neda is a one-year-old female, she was beaten with a metal bar, her spine is badly injured. It's actually the Belgrade veterinary ambulance that found her, she was in such poor condition that they wanted to euthanize her. I couldn't allow that to happen and took her with me.
I took her to the vet, all checks and tests were carried out. Unfortunately surgery is not an option for her, the injury is too severe. She has become a disabled dog due to someone's malice and anger, but she is still a wonderful, calm dog who loves people...
This sweet girl relies entirely on me to be fed and she won't be able to hold on for long if I can no longer do it."
"It is very difficult to finance such a shelter. The authorities have never helped me. I use my personal resources to maintain the shelter, but I ran out of money and I'm in a lot of debt, especially at the vet's.
But my biggest problem remains the procurement of food. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays I go in front of the Pet Center to collect food, but during my last attempts I only got 10-15kg for a whole month, it is far from enough...I also post on social media to get donations and although some good people donate, the amounts are always too small.
I used to be able to finance everything more easily when there were fewer dogs in the shelter. Unfortunately my adoptions have dropped with COVID as less and less people come to visit us. My costs have sharply increased and my budget is exhausted... I need all the help I can get."
"I've always had a special love for animals. I was unable to bear the sadness and suffering of the abandoned dogs I met. It's a feeling that not everyone has, and I knew right away that it was my responsibility to get them off the streets!
Today, it's all turned into a wonderful shelter that brings me both joy and concern. I treat the dogs, keep them, sterilize them, vaccinate them, and then try to adopt them after they recover. Nothing is more important to me than them. It is essential for me to continue because people are rude and violent to them, causing them harm and endangering their health, and they do not deserve it.
I hope that this country will wake up and realize that dogs are living beings who have feelings, just like people. They are more sincere than people and more faithful. I hope that the government will take some measures against people who abuse and threaten them. Laws exist only on paper, but they do not apply in practice."
Animal Webaction has a logistic centre directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I think there are fewer donations because of the coronavirus and the financial crisis that ensued. Individuals are helping less and less, they are not in a good financial situation. People who have money don't care, and those who have significantly less money have always helped. But now I notice that they don't have anything anymore.
I tried contacting state institutions and organizations but nobody responded to my requests. I think that part of the state budget should be set aside for abandoned dogs. I think everyone should be united and try to help. If each of the salaries set aside one dinar, dogs would have a much easier life...
I have exhausted all means, I really need this campaign to work, I can't do it alone ! There is not enough food. My dogs need this."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
