Animal Webaction visited the site 24 October 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"There are a lot of dogs living in the streets, but unfortunately the vet costs are so high that I can't take in more in my shelter... Food is also a big expense, I try to feed them as regularly as possible but for the last two weeks, as my stock of kibble is low, I have had to reduce the daily amount of kibble.
I'm very tense, I'm afraid I won't have enough kibble because I only have a few days of stock left and winter is coming! I often wake up at 4am and think about what more I can do to find kibble in time, but I have no solution.
If this harvest doesn't work, I will have to reduce their daily ration even more, the dogs will become thinner and more aggressive. These dogs need our help to survive in this country, they have not deserved this life!"
"As I have had to ration the dogs for two weeks already, I can already see that the weaker dogs have lost weight. If the situation continues like this, they won't survive this winter: with the sub-zero temperatures approaching, the dogs need to eat more to maintain their body temperature.
I am also afraid that the dogs will become more aggressive and attack each other, the strongest will survive, but the weakest have no chance...
In addition, my shelter is very isolated in the mountains, it is very difficult to find suppliers who agree to deliver kibble to this place because the paths that allow access can be dangerous... As Animal Webaction manages to deliver to us, the survival of the dogs really depends on the success of this campaign!"
"Lucky was taken from his owner because he was being abused. He had kidney failure and very bad lungs! As I nursed him back to health he is much better now but he has constant diarrhea. Very often he vomits the food I give him, except when it is good quality kibble...
I can't afford to buy kibble that is good enough for him to digest, and his health and age require a better quality food than what I am giving him now. Lucky's health is too fragile, without good quality kibble, he will not survive the sub-zero temperatures of the Bosnian winter, he will starve!"
"Since the pandemic, many donors can't help me anymore: the situation has become worse for everyone, some have fallen ill, others have lost their jobs or are just afraid for the future and prefer to save money. On top of that there are the debts to the vet, buying kibble and paying the bills... I can't do it on my own anymore.
Despite this, I always try to stay positive, but my biggest fear is that the number of donors will continue to drop and that the situation will not change quickly. I hope from the bottom of my heart that people will wake up.
Fortunately, I have gained the trust of the people in my village, I take good care of the shelter and they can see that. I don't have much support because it's a small village, but the simple fact that they understand what I offer to the dogs is important to me. Unfortunately, the villagers can't help me buy kibble, I really need this campaign to succeed!"
"Several years ago I got seriously ill and had to spend some time in a coma. When I woke up, my dog, who was perfectly healthy, died... This upset me, it was a trigger: from that day on I was going to give everything to save dogs from misery.
I am very happy to have opened this shelter after the pound closed, but I feel very lonely: my children live in Sarajevo, I have no income and my health is not improving. I am often sad and angry! I feel helpless because I would like to take many more dogs with me to the shelter, I have space, but I would not have the financial means to take care of and feed them all.
I sincerely hope that one day dogs will be treated differently, that the government will help us more, and that associations will have more means to save dogs!"
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I regularly ask for help on social media, hoping that someone will hear me, and that my prayers will finally be answered. I am able to give the dogs a better life, to care for them, to feed them and to find them a loving family, but I cannot do it alone anymore.
There are a few donors who help me, but it is not enough. I get small donations of kibble from time to time, and a group of animal lovers do their best to help me pay the bills and buy kibble, but our wallets are not stretchable.
There are fewer and fewer donors, so there are fewer and fewer funds to manage all the financial aspects of the shelter, nor to buy kibble! This campaign is my last hope..."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
