Animal Webaction visited the site 21 November 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Winter is the most difficult time of the year: the water in the bowls always freezes, the dogs are cold and we need to feed them more than usual so that they don't suffer from the sub-zero temperatures. At the moment, we only have 5 days' worth of kibble in stock!
The health of the dogs is my biggest concern, I am afraid they will go hungry, especially the ones that were very weak and thin when we took them in, they absolutely need regular good quality food to recover! I'm very anxious, if this harvest doesn't work I don't know where we're going to get kibble...
If we don't find a solution soon, the consequences would be devastating, of course, because without good food, the medical care we give them will not be enough to save them. It has become impossible for us to manage everything alone. The situation is worse than ever: more dogs in the shelter and on the streets, more vulnerable and injured dogs... We need support, both financially and in kibble donations!"
"The number of dogs on the streets is increasing, more and more people are throwing them out because they can't take care of them, or because they are going to live abroad... Unfortunately, there is no municipal service to catch them and put them in a shelter in the region, so the dogs stay outside in the cold, they find refuge where they can: in bushes, in abandoned houses, in ditches... Most of them are in bad health!
As I already have a lot of trouble finding food for the dogs in the shelter, I cannot take in any more, as they might fight each other for a few kibbles. They will have to spend the winter on the streets, I would really like to continue to feed them regularly as they depend on us to survive in such conditions!
I am always afraid of what might happen to the dogs on the streets, especially the females and puppies. Dogs need someone to look after them, good food, shelter and veterinary care. I really need this campaign to succeed so we can save them..."
"Lucifer's owner abandoned him to live abroad. When we found him, he was in a very bad state: he was tied with a rope around his neck at the bottom of a garden! According to the neighbours who warned us, he had been beaten several times...
He is improving day by day, he is finally eating regularly and slowly gaining weight. His health is still fragile, so it is important that we are able to offer him some kibble!"
"Previously, when we received a shipment of poor quality food, the dogs would have problems with diarrhoea or just not want to eat. Fortunately the kibble we received from Animal Webaction was of really good quality and allowed us to feed our dogs properly. Unfortunately, our stock is almost exhausted and I am really afraid that this campaign will fail, as we will have no other solution.
We have more dogs than ever before and we have a lot of vet debts, many of which still need urgent treatment. So I can't buy kibble...
Our options are limited at the moment, especially since the start of the pandemic, as there is little money available. The little aid we are getting now is not enough to cover the amount of food needed!"
"I've been looking after dogs for 30 years now, I opened the shelter in 2011, and since 2013 I've created the Pongo association. Before that I used to feed dogs on the street, but back then there weren't as many dogs as there are now.
I am unhappy, the local population has a bad mindset, many of them chase the dogs away, they think Pongo is the only solution for everything and expect us to take in all the dogs and take care of their "problems" ....
Despite all this, I am most proud of the fact that we have been able to run this organisation and manage it for all these years, and of course the fact that since we started, about 600 dogs have been adopted! The greatest wish of all dog lovers is that they are all safe, happy, healthy and feel loved. We really need to change the mindset."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Before the pandemic, we received more food from abroad because the borders were not as restrictive. Also, we had more requests for adoptions to other countries.
We have placed donation boxes at two vets, and some in local bakeries. We also get some donations from the local council, and we have a Facebook page where we raise awareness of new rescues and the poor conditions some dogs are in. Through it, some people give us money for veterinary operations or to buy food. This helps us, but we are still far from raising enough money for everything we need.
We are currently setting up a project with other organisations to have our vaccinations paid for. This would be a huge relief, but in the meantime we still have to pay for them from our own savings. We are doing everything we can to raise money here and there, but unfortunately it is not enough, we have run out of money..."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
