Animal Webaction visited the site 19 November 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"The number of dogs in our care is increasing every day. Just last week we took in 57 dogs, saving them from euthanasia at the local pound. We give our best to provide the dogs with a safe and warm environment but having over 450 dogs is overwhelming. Our need for volunteers, help and food are greater everyday, but fewer and fewer people offer to help.
Economies across the world are suffering as well, making donations much scarcer, and travel restrictions make it nearly impossible to transfer dogs to other countries for adoption... We have many mouths to feed and only have enough food for the following 4 days. We are stressed and concerned, wondering if we will manage to provide the most basic care for the dogs...
We've rescued these dogs and by coming here, we've given them a glimpse of hope, a second chance at life. If we are no longer able to feed them, they might get in fights and hurt each other. After all they've already been through, we really can't let that happen . We need this kibble donation to succeed, because it is a life-saver, literally."
"We have recently started gaining access to the local pound. It opened in 2009, is funded by the municipality but sadly, it's far from from being a public service... The people in charge aren't doing anything for the dogs, they just see personal gain. They don’t treat the dogs, they don’t give them enough food nor do they provide them shelter from rain, cold or wind.
They just close them in a box and wait for them to kill each other, because they put 100 dogs in the same box, regardess of their size, age, gender or social background. It is actually a death camp in every sense of the word...Until we find a mechanism to shut the local pound down, we have to rescue the dogs who are trapped there. We cannot live with the thought of them living in those horrible conditions.
Unfortunately, we do not have infinite capacities and we're stepping very close to our limit... If we are no longer able to procure food for our dogs and the ones who need saving, we will collapse and the dogs will perish in dreadful conditions. Their precious lives are at stake."
"We just rescued Kala from the kill shelter with her 6 babies. When we took her, she was just a bag of bones, her legs were shaking , she couldn’t even stand on her own. When she got her first meal, she literally started crying... She was full of scars and wounds from dog fights.
She suffered chronical pancreatitis just as all the other dogs rescued from starvation in the kill shelter. She has now started recovering, gained back some weight and strength. She remains extremely fragile though and won't be able to survive another starvation, it would be ruinous for her. It's essential we can continue feeding her. It's essential that this campaign works..."
"Generally, people support our work, mostly through verbal encouragements. There are only a few people who donate money but it is usually small amounts for a particular dog in need. People are not inclined to donate for food or other everyday expenses that go with this kind of activities (fuel, medicine, dewormers, spot-ons etc.).
The pandemic is also continuing to take its toll. A lot of dogs have lost their owners to COVID, increasing our load even further. I always fear that someday we will not be able to provide enough food, vet care or any care whatsoever.
We are a team of 5 volunteers running the shelter, we go through a lot of stress, worry and many sleepless nights, we all do it for the love of these beautiful creatures. But on the other hand, we truly hope that our work will get recognized by local authorities and that bigger organizations will decide to help us because we need more support to be able to continue saving lives. We can't do it alone, that's why we need your help."
"I have been involved in animal welfare since 2013. Over this period of time and with the help of other volunteers, we have managed to save over 2100 dogs from death and pain... that really makes us proud. On our own, we can manage the symptoms of the problem, but in order to put a stop to the issue of stray and abandoned dogs, we need to act as a community and change things at the root of the problem – we need to raise awareness, make changes to the legislation, and improve control systems.
We like when people come to visit and they see how our dogs are free, full of love and enjoying their lives. We try to teach people about responsible ownership, we help them with sterilization and other procedures if needed. We try to teach by example, to make people realize dogs indeed are people’s best friends. It is the biggest recognition when other people value our work and a further step towards improving people's awareness."

"There are a few people who support us and help us but overall since the pandemic, we haven't been that succesful with online fundraising. Our finances are suffering greatly and so are our capacities to continue to help the many dogs in distress that need us.
We have tried contacting all the organizations we know of, and if we get a response at all, they tell us that they are already helping another shelter and cannot help us as well. The only organization we cooperate and have a partnership with is Prijedor Emergency. They help us with adoptions, vet bills and anything they can. But they are a small organization and they cannot cover all the expenses we have. We really need this campaign to work so badly."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
