Animal Webaction visited the site 27 November 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Karim will soon run out of kibble to feed the dozens of street dogs under his care. Hungry, the dogs disturb the residents, several have already been killed by the municipality in reaction...

%%%

"There are more and more dogs and puppies in the street, because there were a lot of births after the summer. The problem is that when there are too many dogs, they form packs, and when they are hungry, they go near people's houses, they rummage through the garbage. Many people then call the municipality to get rid of the problem and the dogs are euthanised...

The last slaughter was only ten days ago, some were dogs that we had sterilized and were under our protection... The situation is catastrophic! We do our best but it always feels like it's getting more and more difficult, the price of kibble for one, has increased enormously.

We are obliged to ration the dogs, we give them a little bit of kibble with leftover bread... they don't eat enough and today we have only 6 bags of kibble left, that's enough for 3 days. If we don't find a solution, the street dogs will die of hunger or be killed by the authorities, in total indifference. We can't let that happen, it's just horrible."

2. Submissive and vulnerable, Caty was seriously injured in the street following a fight with other dogs. It is imperative that she has enough to eat to recover.

###

"Caty is a female of about 3 years old, it is the police who reported her to us on the road to Fez... She had just been attacked by other dogs, she is unfortunately very seriously affected. Even if our capacities at the shelter are already reached, we could not leave her, alone, abandoned and wounded in the street.

She needs a lot of care, she will need several operations, she also has parasitic infections so she needs a treatment, we give her painkillers until we can treat her properly.

She is in great pain and has a long way to go before she can fully recover. She won't be able to withstand food deprivation."

3. At the shelter, the need for kibble is enormous and the dogs are already not getting enough to eat. Karim is afraid he will have to release them back to the streets if he doesn't find a solution!

%%%

"We currently have 97 dogs in the shelter, we do our best to save the most vulnerable, the handicapped, injured, blind dogs, those with cancer... We receive a lot of requests for care but unfortunately we can't keep up.

We have had to ration the dogs even more, we can't give them kibble every day and not in the same quantities as before. The dogs are very thin, they recover less quickly, have less strength ... Their immunity is weakened and it prevents them from healing.

It is imperative that the dogs can regain their strength, especially with winter coming... If we don't have kibble, I would have to release them to the street but they are far too vulnerable. I feel despair, helplessness, anxiety because I don't know how bad the situation will continue to be... We really need this help."

4. Taken in with her puppies and severely handicapped, Nora's survival depends on kibble arrival...

###

"Nora is a female of about 2 years old, she comes from Safi, we took her in with her puppies, we don't know what happened to her exactly...Her leg was infected, there was glass in it, she was in a catastrophic state.

She is better now but she is still very weak... She will remain handicapped for life and needs us to be able to feed her and continue living. She would now be unable to survive on the street alone..."

5. Donations at their lowest, professional activity at a standstill, debts... The pandemic has heavily affected Karim, he can no longer buy kibble.

###

"I have a guest house with which I financed the shelter but since the COVID and the closing of the borders, the tourist activity has completely stopped, I do not have any more income, I no longer know how to cope. Dogs continue to be massively abandoned and adoptions have stopped, it is really difficult.

We have debts with our suppliers, vets, for rent, water, electricity... Honestly I am afraid that this will continue and I don't know how long the suppliers will continue to accept all this...

Because of the pandemic, the whole economy has collapsed, people are donating less and less... The few donations we receive are unfortunately not enough. It's exasperating not being able to buy kibble because it's the dogs' most basic need... This collection is our only hope"

6. Karim isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"We set up the first shelter in 2015 in Mejjat, with about 50 dogs and 70 cats. In 2018 we chose to move closer to Marrakech to increase our impact and efficiency. We moved the animals here, and since then, we do our best to save as many as possible.

We make great efforts regarding sterilization too, we try to sterilize 30 dogs every month if possible. For us, sterilization is essential to avoid the increase of animals and to treat the problem at the source.

We are proud of what we have done, of the many animals we have saved. We are also proud of the shelter's infrastructure which allows the animals to live in good conditions. We are very proud of our association, but the real problem is the lack of funding and the fear that we can no longer survive because of the difficulties that are accumulating..."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Karim will not receive any money but 3500 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

8. Insufficient donations, incessant care... Karim's numerous calls for help are no longer enough. He needs this campaign to feed the dogs!

"We recently received a stretcher and a pole to catch animals as donations. As for money donations, we have received 400 euros over the last 4 months, which is already good, but it is far from being enough to cover the needs of all our animals. We can't buy kibble anymore because we don't have money, and our debt is at its highest now...

These collections are essential for us, especially since the authorities do not help us in anything. It's simple, if there is no kibble we can't continue because the dogs won't be able to eat... This help means everything."

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

10. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies . It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many dogs remain starving on the street!
