Animal Webaction visited the site 31 December 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"In total, there are 80 street cats who rely on me for their daily food ration. This number is enormous and apart from a few friends who send me donations from time to time, I receive no help.
This lack of means forces me to count every penny, and the calculation is quickly made: I simply have no money left to buy kibble. I am afraid that the problem will increase in the next few weeks, since it is the kitten season...
I am expecting a wave of abandonment in the near future which will lead to even more expenses for kibble and care... I have already used up my last 2 bags of kibble, I am morally exhausted. If this campaign doesn't succeed, I can wave my very last hope of feeding the cats goodbye..."
"Because of the crisis, there are more and more sick cats, abandoned by their owners who did not have the means to treat them. Unfortunately, these cats add to the existing population of strays, and increase the proliferation of diseases.
Coryza is very prevalent in the neighborhoods I cover, a large number of cats and kittens unfortunately suffer from it. Cats are particularly vulnerable and with the winter they are cold, weakened, thin. I can't bear to see them suffer before my eyes and stand by.
If I can't find a way to get kibble, I won't be able to help the street cats. Yet, it is their only comfort and chance of survival..."
"Lottie is around 3 months old, she was abandoned in the street at a very young age and got coryza. She is fragile, she has red eyes and a runny nose all the time because of the virus.
She is very shy, she hardly lets me approach her. Without kibble to allow me to gain her trust, it will be impossible to give her the treatment she needs, and if she doesn't eat, the treatment won't work either..."
"The pandemic has affected us and is still affecting us, I am currently overwhelmed with veterinary debts due to lack of donations and it is affecting my assistance to the cats.
I am forced to refuse some rescues, I only treat the most urgent cases, on credit... I try to finance my actions by selling animal accessories but it is far from being sufficient.
I feel unable to continue feeding the cats because of the lack of money. The money I earn by selling accessories will never be able to pay all the costs of kibbles, nor pay my veterinary debts... I need help!"
"I've had a passion for cats since I was a little girl, but I really started getting involved in 2014. Since then, I've been sacrificing my time, energy and all my money for them. Unfortunately I am the only one in Temara who cares about their well-being.
The local population is clearly hostile towards them; many stray cats are regularly tortured, burned or poisoned... victims of people's cruelty.
In my presence no one can harm them but unfortunately I can't cope with everything alone anymore due to the lack of means. It is very difficult to take care of a large number of cats without help and donations."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"Moroccans have rarely ever donated for animals, in their view, humans are more important. And with the pandemic and the economic crisis, my fundraising attempts aren't working, donations are almost non-existent.
I get help from a foreign organisation that helps me with veterinary bills and food from time to time, but they can't help me constantly either.
The situation is getting worse every day... Animal Webaction's campaign is my only hope, it has to succeed! It's the only way I can continue to help stray and abandoned cats."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
