Animal Webaction visited the site 04 January 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
1. In Bosnia, Maya is running out of food for the 53 dogs in her shelter. They will starve to death if no one does anything!
"There are dogs that need help on the street, but unfortunately we can't take them to the shelter because we still have a lot of things to fix because of the floods, and we only have 4 days of food left for our 53 dogs...
We have invested so much money since the floods to save all our dogs that we are out of money and food, yet winter is the time when dogs need to eat the most to maintain their body temperature and not freeze to death.
I am very worried because if this campaign fails I will have no other solution to feed them... They might get sick, fight or starve to death. The dogs can't survive without kibble, they depend on us, especially the dogs who are already very weakened by their former life on the streets."
2. The shelter was recently hit by terrible floods, and with the cost of repairs, Maya can no longer afford to buy food!

"We recently experienced heavy flooding at the shelter which caused a lot of damage, but fortunately we managed to save all the dogs. We are really worried about further flooding as the river bed has widened considerably since the last flood. Also, the winter here is always very harsh and it takes a lot more food and resources to keep the dogs warm and healthy.
We had a terrible experience, most of the shelters were destroyed, but we managed to rescue all the dogs and get them out of the water. We had to move the dogs to boarding houses until we repaired all the boxes in the shelter, we lost a lot of time and money. We can't buy kibble anymore, I'm very worried about the health of my dogs..."
3. Victoria has just escaped a certain death at the pound, without kibble, she is now in danger of starving.
"Victoria was rescued from the pound with her brother and sister, all three were going to be euthanised! She went through hell there, and today she remains very weak, mainly because of digestive problems: she is very thin, she will not survive the harsh Bosnian winter if she does not eat properly!"
4. The pandemic has greatly slowed down donations, and the floods have emptied the association's bank account, there is no money left to buy kibble!
"Since we experienced this terrible flood, we have lost a lot of money, and as the pandemic has had a negative effect on the financial situation of many people, we receive less and less donations.
At the moment we have a lot of debts to the vet because we have a lot of old, sick and injured dogs... We also have sick dogs that have long treatments because of chronic diseases, which means we have to buy a lot of medicines!
It is important to have food at the shelter, especially in winter, because the consumption of kibble is much higher. We collect and ask for food aid regularly but only get a few bags each time. We are constantly begging for kibble, especially as it is getting more and more expensive!"
5. Maya isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.
"'Hope Vms Elaine's Dogs' has been registered as an animal welfare charity since 2013. We have rescued countless dogs from the horrors of the Bosnian streets and pounds by healing them physically and mentally from the traumas they have suffered in their sad lives as unwanted, unloved street dogs.
We currently care for 53 dogs in the shelter and 3 in boarding facilities. Some are old, some are puppies, but they all deserve love and a chance at a better future. Our shelter is located in a rural area where our rescued animals can be cared for and rehabilitated in peace. Once fully recovered, vaccinated and neutered, they are available for fostering. To date we have had over 200 successful adoptions, unfortunately the fight never ends.
Our goal is to prevent the suffering and abuse of Bosnian dogs through rescue, rehabilitation, care and ultimately adoption. Dogs are always in danger, especially those living on the streets. I would like to help them more and rescue the dogs that need help, especially those who urgently need it."
6. If this campaign succeeds, Maya will not receive any money but 2400 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistic platform in Bosnia.

7. Since the pandemic, donations have stopped, and Maya's supporters have already done their utmost to save the shelter from flooding: she is afraid that this kibble campaign will also fail...
"We have received a lot of help from people and organisations in the form of donations to help our dogs and our shelter after the flood, so that we can repair the shelter which was almost destroyed. Because we have invested a lot of money in repairing the kennels and placing the dogs in boarding kennels so we can no longer buy food.
We could not have saved the shelter without the help of our supporters, but now they have reached the end of their resources and we are left without any solution to feed the dogs... We need your help to get out of this nightmare!"
