Animal Webaction visited the site 22 January 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"The number of dogs on the streets is increasing, and the more it increases, the more money we spend and the more we worry. This is all related to the difficult situation we are living in today... With the pandemic came the disappearance of tourists and the closing of restaurants: the dustbins are empty, the dogs can't find any food!
Our association does not have the means to feed all the dogs properly, we have so many unpaid bills from food suppliers and vets that we can no longer afford to buy kibble. The problem is that if we feed them poor quality kibble, the dogs get diarrhoea, they get sick, they lose their coat... Their health depends on the kibble we give them.
We have been reducing their daily portions for a month now. In a few days I won't have any more kibble, it makes me physically and mentally ill. I have invested so much in this project for years, that to fail in this mission would be a real nightmare!"
"Tanjawiya was very sick when I found her on the roadside! She had a fever, she was extremely anaemic... We had to give her a very strong antibiotic treatment and keep her under constant observation at the veterinary clinic.
Once she was cured, we released her on the street, but we continue to monitor her. With the pandemic, the bins are empty and Tanjawiya can't feed herself... I absolutely have to keep bringing her kibble, otherwise I fear she will get sick again!"
"The number of dogs in the shelter has increased very rapidly recently, we have received a lot of calls for help and we always do our best to respond to them because when a dog is seriously injured on the street, it has no chance of getting out...
Here at the sanctuary we deal with very fragile dogs who could not survive on the street. The problem we have every winter is that we have a lot of trouble getting water and food.
In a few days I won't have any more food, the dogs are too fragile to be hungry, I'm afraid something will happen to them... They might get weak and sick, which would lead to more vet bills. Today, solving the problem of kibble supply is our priority because we don't want to leave them to their fate!"
"Noodles belongs to a family with very little money. As he was paralysed, we took him to the sanctuary for treatment before he was returned to his family. Two years later, they gave him back to us because they could no longer care for him.
He had a broken front and back leg! If we hadn't taken him in, he would probably have died by now. We absolutely have to continue to take care of him, and without kibble it will be impossible..."
"We have not been able to pay for the deliveries of kibble for a fortnight now, the association's finances are dry... Today, we can no longer place orders before paying our debts! Since the beginning of the Covid crisis, donations have decreased considerably, and unfortunately this is our only means of financing.
We pay the vet every month, but we are behind on the bills, we can't clear the whole slate of debts. Even if we are lucky enough to have a vet on our side who is willing to give us credit, we have no choice but to pay him regularly.
We spend our time posting alerts about our situation on social media, but it's not enough, we need more donations to buy the amount of kibble needed to feed all the dogs in need!"
"These dogs need us! Over the years and after investing all the money I have in this project, we now have over 610 animals. We have saved so many animals in need that we want to continue. If we only focused on the sanctuary, we would not have any financial difficulties. But we realised that the sanctuary is not the solution to the problem.
The solution is the Hayat project, we have to vaccinate, sterilise and care for these animals. For every dog that is taken in, we assign a health worker, so we can save the lives of the dogs and protect the population from diseases. We are doing our best to change the world we live in!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics center in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"Since we opened the sanctuary, people have seen that we are doing a good job. That's why we have two companies supporting us, we hope that this year they can help us again. Unfortunately this is not enough to feed the dogs daily...
So we have contacted many organisations but we are still waiting for answers. Since the creation of the Hayat project, some companies seem to be interested in us, I hope that this will make a difference because at the moment we have very little support...
Even if we are happy to receive any small help, it is never about food, it is only about vaccinations and sterilisations. We really need this campaign to succeed, without kibble we won't be able to continue saving animals!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
