"Getting kibble is a real headache every day, at the moment I have to organise myself from day to day to buy it with my own means. As there have been sub-zero temperatures recently, I have also had to buy straw, kennels, blankets... Also, in winter, dogs need to eat more to maintain their body temperature and survive the cold: all in all, that's a lot of money...
The dogs don't eat enough at the shelter, unfortunately I can't afford to buy more kibble. I try not to reduce their daily portions, but I have to. Today I only have a few days of kibble left, after that I still haven't found a solution to feed my 119 dogs!
I often feel bad and helpless, because when there is not enough kibble, the dogs become nervous and tend to fight each other. Kibble is necessary for the dogs, both for their health and for their cohabitation in the kennels!"
"I find a lot of abandoned dogs in the area, every day there are new ones! On the streets, the dogs live a hell, most of the inhabitants don't want to take care of them. The worst thing is that I regularly see people voluntarily running over dogs, hitting them, poisoning them...
That's why I welcome the dogs here at the shelter, so that they don't have to experience this violence anymore! Unfortunately, this means feeding more and more dogs, and I have already had to reduce the amount of kibble I give them because I don't have enough for all of them.
Before the pandemic, an Austrian group was very helpful in getting dogs adopted abroad. The problem is that since Covid the borders have closed and this has made it very difficult for the dogs to find new families. The balance of the shelter is therefore disturbed, there are no more dogs coming out, only dogs going in... We get as many donations as before but for a larger number of dogs, so I can't feed them all properly, they will get sick or die of cold!"
"I found Desa on the street two years ago when she was just a puppy. She was so small, fragile and scared. I have spent a lot of time caring for her, but despite all the love I have for her she is still very fearful. She's not aggressive and she lets herself go, so the other dogs often attack her when she tries to eat, and as she doesn't want to fight for kibble, she gives up and goes away...
It's essential that I have enough kibble at the shelter, so that the other dogs eat enough and don't try to take her food! As she already doesn't eat enough, she will be in danger if this campaign doesn't work..."
"I fund all the expenses of the shelter from my meagre pension. I clearly don't have the means to manage everything on my own, especially since the number of dogs in need has exploded! Since the pandemic, kibble has become more expensive, and the donations I receive do not compensate for the association's lack of cash flow...
My neighbour is the only volunteer who comes to help me, she comes as needed and according to her free time. I am therefore mostly alone at the shelter to look after the dogs, I am there from morning to night! I feed them, wash them, take them to the vet, I do almost all the work myself and it's not easy for me.
The living conditions at the shelter are bad, there is a lot of mud in the yard and this tends to annoy the dogs who become more aggressive. Unfortunately I can't afford to do any work.... I have already spent all my savings on meeting the needs of the dogs, without the success of this kibble campaign, I don't know what will happen to the dogs!"
"My commitment to animals is total. I feel great sadness and disappointment when I see how people treat dogs and cats on the street. From this came my desire to help them and so I founded this shelter.
My biggest fear is that I will not be able to finance the needs of the dogs, especially the kibble. I'm afraid I'll have to release them on the street if the situation doesn't improve... This should not happen as I am doing my best to help the dogs as much as I can, I am hopeful!
I am still concerned that there are more and more animals on the street. The number is not decreasing. I can't help all the dogs as much as I would like. I am very proud of myself for having already saved many dogs, they live better in the shelter than if they had stayed on the street!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"There is no international or Serbian organisation that donates to my shelter, only individuals who occasionally help with small donations. I have contacted associations abroad, but I have never had an answer, this campaign is clearly my only hope to get kibble, believe me, I really don't know where else to turn.
Every donation I receive is spent on kibble: it's a necessity for the dogs' survival! The problem is that I get too little help, and my pension is too small to feed them all. I have to admit that, with my old age, I'm not very good with new technologies and I can't use them. Anyway, I don't know how I could find the time as I am with the dogs all day!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
