Animal Webaction visited the site 29 January 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
“Donations have drastically decreased after Christmas, and unfortunately, they are our only to buy kibble! As we don’t have any funds left, and very few people who donate or help us, we have no other option to feed the dogs than to ask you to organize this campaign...
The local population expects us to take all the dogs from the streets, but we already have 375 dogs in our shelter which is a lot! Especially when it gets this cold : this freezing weather is affecting the dogs’ health and without any food, it is very hard to keep the dogs warmed up. I am really stressed that we won't be able to handle everything as it is just the two of us taking care of the whole shelter.
Everyone who could have helped us until now already did, but it is definitely not enough for the number of dogs that we have. They need to eat more during winter as they are already weak but we only have a couple bags of kibble left. It won’t be long before it will be over. I really hope this campaign will succeed otherwise the dogs will be in danger. Your help is the only one that always makes a huge difference!”
“Right now, the temperatures are so low that the dogs need to eat more than usual to stay warm and stay alive! Unfortunately, we have so few kibble left that we had to cut down their everyday portion : they don't eat enough to survive in the cold!
As we are running out of space, the dogs have to share their kennels and live together : we already witnessed this situation before, the situation can get dangerous! The dogs get nervous because they are hungry and cold and they start fighting. It was such a disaster, I fear this will happen again if we don't find kibble soon!
Also, lots of dogs at the shelter are sick or weakened by injuries, so we need this campaign to succeed for the dogs to recover... Otherwise they will start to get sicker, weaker, and they might die ! I can't let this happen, we need this campaign to succeed, this is our number one priority!"
“Lucy is 5 years old and was hit by a train. We found her bleeding along a rail track! We took her to the vet but the damage was too severe and she had to be amputated... It was then difficult for her to get used to only being on 3 legs, so we had to keep her inside the house. Recently, she started to share her kennel with another dog because we don't have enough space for her to live by herself.
If a fight for kibble breaks out, Lucy won’t be able to defend herself because she moves slowly and remains dominated by the bigger dogs. We absolutely need to have enough kibble to feed them all otherwise the other dogs will eat her portion!"
“The pandemic hit us hard 2 years ago and it might be a long time before we manage to get out of this situation. We have many debts to the vet clinic and a lot of taxes to pay. As donations are our only way to make the shelter work, it is very hard to cope since they praticly stopped!
Winter is far from being over, and unfortunately as we don't have enough food for the dogs to keep their body temperature at a normal level, we also need to concentrate on fixing the shelter so that they won't be cold... Pipes are frozen, fences need to be fixed and we definitively need more boxes for the dogs to keep them from fighting !
We already handle so much : cleaning, feeding, handle the vet visits, the paperwork, looking for donations, our Facebook page and so on… We would desperately need to hire someone to help us but it is so hard to find a trustworthy and responsible person to work around dogs, that we remain lonely and cannot cope by ourselves anymore. This campaign is fundamental for us, it will help us to have enough kibble for the dogs to stay satiated and warm!"
“Everything started 11 years ago when we brought a few abandoned animals into our house. Soon, we were out of space and funds, so we decided to create an association in 2017. In 2021, we managed to have a few adoptions and helped many dogs in distress recovering from really bad traumas.
We love the dogs so much and it is always such a pain to see so many of them abandoned, taken for granted, hurt or almost dead. Here, people like us and appreciate that we try to take as many dogs as we can, but they don’t realize how hard it is to handle so much! They just seem relieved that there is a place to take care of all the dogs.
We would love to see more people getting involved : they don’t necessarily need to adopt, they can help in so many other ways. The city hall and “Only for them” helped us to build new kennels. That was a start, we try to change things, but it takes a lot of time...”
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"At the moment, we only get help from two organisations : “Only for them” in France, and “Ruff Start” in the UK. When they share our posts, it creates more online visibility for the shelter. But the problem is that they have already done their best to help us buy kibble, and we have way too many dogs for their means...
I tried to contact other organizations, but a lot of them are in the same situation as ours and cannot help. Unfortunately, even the online fundraisings don't work, we tried everything in our power but we are out of solutions to feed the dogs!
It gets so hard to get everything done at the shelter, because it’s only the two of us managing the shelter and the administration part of the association, and most of our time during the day is used to take care of the dogs. This campaign for kibble is our only hope, we are deeply in need of help to feed the dogs!"
