Animal Webaction visited the site 29 January 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
“The number of dogs at the shelter has increased lately and our adoptions have really slowed down, we've only had 1 in the last couple of months. Of course, more dogs means more expenses and a bigger need for food; but what can I do? I can't just pass by sick or injured dogs on the streets and look the other way... I have to bring them here, where they can be safe.
Once at the shelter, feeding them is a top priority but right now it is definitely not easy. Donations have significantly decreased in December and January, just after the holidays. I have almost no kibble left and no funds to buy more...
I honestly don't know how my dogs will survive if I can't feed them. We strive to keep them all healthy, but without kibble it is impossible... I am very worried. This campaign is my only hope that my dogs be safe and well fed for the next couple of months.”
"This winter is very cold, the dogs need to eat a lot more than usual to remain healthy. I am trying my best to avoid cutting down their portion too much, but we have almost no kibble left, I have no choice but to try and stretch the little I have left...
The dogs are getting visibly hungry, they eat their bowls to the last crumb, they don't miss a single kibble. I am scared. Tensions are rising and I'm afraid fights will break out if I don't find a way to increase their meals.
I'm incredibly proud to have rescued so many dogs but currently, not knowing how to feed them makes me feel really desperate and helpless...My dogs need human help to survive! I hope we can all come together and make this campaign a success, for my dogs' sake..."
"We rescued Maga from the dog pound, she was extremely thin and had 2 tumors on her front legs. She was taken to the vet and the tumors were removed but unfortunately after a year and a half, the tumors came back in the same place... We are monitoring them closely.
To make matters worse, Maga has now developed a heart condition. She has serious heart failure and barely escaped death...Veterinarians thought she only had a few days left to live, but luckily she is still here!
Today Maga is recovering and remains under treatment. If we are no longer able to feed her, her health condition will surely worsen and her medication will prove ineffective... Getting her this food is a matter of life and death for her."
“I used to be able to run the shelter with my personal income alone but it is a lot harder now, there are more and more dogs, the crisis is really big and the struggle for food is constant. I still spend all my personal funds on the shelter, for kibble, repairs, medication... but it no longer suffices.
Donations are irregular and minimal, they only help in the short term. I have very high debts at both the food supplier and the vet for various analyses, surgeries, sterilizations.... I promised myself that in the next 2 months I would pay them off, but honestly, I don't know how I will be able to make it.
I try to remain positive, I keep hoping that something will change for the better, I am doing everything I can but it is very difficult. I'm hoping this campaign can at least help me provide food for my dogs!"
"Here in Serbia, people generally neglect their own pets, and do not care about street dogs either. They often think that dogs should just disappear from the street...
There are lots of ups and downs managing a shelter like this but I'm incredibly proud to have helped and rescued so many dogs and I know that my shelter contributes to the reduction of dogs on the streets.
Everything I do for these dogs is done out of pure affection, they are my priority and I strive to assist them in every way I can. It is my responsibility to take care of them and it would be a great failure for me if I fail to maintain my shelter or provide kibble to the dogs that are under my protection."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Serbia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"A few decades ago, I had the illusion that my rescue would solve the dog problem in my area... I now know that although I am saving the individual lives of dogs, the situation in our country is not going to change anytime soon and it is very frustrating. No one here cares about the dogs...
Internationally, I am lucky to count on the support of a Dutch organization, they help me with donations and sterilizations from time to time. Unfortunately the help received doesn't help me cover all the dogs' needs, I am in a difficult situation and I just don't have enough funds to get out of this crisis.
I don't see any solutions right now. I will keep trying to find new sponsors and contact new organisations but in the meantime, I can only count on the support of this campaign."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
