Animal Webaction visited the site 09 February 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"Street dogs are in a terrible state of health: they are sick, hungry, skeletal... Since the pandemic, the situation has worsened: with the disappearance of tourism, restaurants have closed, so the dogs can no longer feed on the leftovers in the bins and are losing weight! The problem is that as there is no sterilisation campaign organised by the municipality, they continue to reproduce: I try to save as many animals as possible from this situation, but unfortunately I cannot afford to take them all in at the shelter.
When I notice a stray dog in a critical state of health, I immediately bring him to the shelter, treat, sterilise, vaccinate and feed him until he finds a loving family. But here's the thing: how can I give these poor dogs a second chance if I can't feed them anymore? I've already had to ration them by adding bread to the bowls for several weeks, but if this situation lasts too long, their health will deteriorate rapidly... Today, I only have two days worth of kibble left!
I feel helpless, very sad, but also physically and mentally exhausted... Even though I am doing my best to help the dogs, I realise that I can't do anything more because donations have been almost non-existent for far too long. If this kibble campaign fails, my dogs will starve to death, and that will wipe me out!"
"The number of dogs on the streets is constantly increasing: with the pandemic, many dogs have been abandoned, are reproducing, transmitting diseases, infections... That's why more and more fragile dogs are coming to the shelter! These dogs need medication, surgery, and proper nutrition to be eligible for adoption.
As donations have fallen sharply since the beginning of the pandemic, we have reached the end of our means: we can no longer buy kibble! The problem is that the dogs will not be able to survive their medication or recover from surgery on an empty stomach. Also, we are in a period where there are a lot of ticks, but we can't afford to buy dewormers to eradicate them...
Since I started rationing the dogs several weeks ago, I notice that they have started to lose weight, some have even become very skinny... If the situation goes on any longer, diseases will develop and spread, and my dogs will be too weak to fight them... This kibble campaign will save my dogs' lives!"
"When a local resident brought Touta to the shelter, she had just been hit by a car! One of her paws was so infected that she unfortunately had to be amputated... Her other three legs were all broken: poor Touta underwent very heavy operations and still has to undergo treatment to recover properly from this painful stage of her life.
Today, moving around on three legs requires a lot of effort, she needs to eat kibble! I've been by her side since the beginning, I'm doing my best to make sure she recovers and has a chance to have a happy life, but without kibble it's hopeless..."
"Since the pandemic, I can't find a job, so the shelter is only financed by donations. The problem is that there are only four people who support me, and unfortunately they can't afford to help me more than a few euros here and there. So I have to dip into my savings and go into debt to vets and kibble suppliers to feed my dogs...
The management of the shelter is a financial hole because I not only have to take care of, vaccinate and feed the dogs and cats in my care, but I also have to pay the rent, utilities, and the salaries of my two employees because we have no volunteers... It is difficult to bear everything on my own, so I try as much as I can to make the locals aware of my actions, but for the moment, I don't see the effects...
From the municipality and the Government, no help is given to me either, neither to pay the veterinary expenses, nor to get kibbles: I would like to see sterilisation and vaccination campaigns organised, I would like people to come and help me at the shelter from time to time, or even simply to give love to the animals, but we are still far from it and for the moment I still have to manage alone. This kibble campaign is my last chance..."
"Saving animals is my life purpose, and if I had to do it again, I would do it again! At the very beginning of my adventure in 2014, my shelter was an animal boarding facility, but as time went on, more and more abandoned dogs were dropped off on my doorstep and I couldn't resign myself to not helping them!
I still hope that when the borders are reopened, the volunteers will come back to the shelter and I can finally get some support. I also hope to find work so that the shelter's financial situation can finally improve, so that I can feed, care for and protect as many dogs as possible.
In the meantime, I am proud to be saving lives despite all the complications we are going through, to be adopting so many animals in America, Canada and Europe, and most of all I am proud to be part of such a worthy movement!"
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Since opening my shelter in 2014, I have been contacting organisations all over the world, but I never got an answer. Only Animal Webaction and its community have agreed to help me by bringing me the kibble I need to feed my dogs! And yet, I opened a website, a Facebook account and an Instagram account to try to reach as many people as possible. But nothing happens, I still don't receive any donations...
I am currently canvassing some local businesses, I hope the project will succeed, and that I will finally receive some help. In the meantime, I have to continue to fight alone, I am in debt, very tired mentally and physically, and I have spent all my savings... This campaign means a lot to me and my dogs, I don't know what will happen to them if it fails..."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
