"There are new dogs on the street every day; their number is never going down because people still throw out their old dogs as well as puppies… We've recently taken many of them who were in really bad shape. Without our shelter, many of these dogs would die…
While the number of dogs under our care has increased, our budget is the same as before... I have just spent the last week on the phone asking whomever I could think of to help us with the food. It is a constant struggle and a big problem.
Right now we have no food left in storage. It is scary. I think about my dogs' well-being all the time. I am trying to stay positive and hope for the best, but frankly not getting this food would be a disaster for my dogs. I have dedicated my life to these wonderful animals, and I have to find a way to feed them!"
"There are many dogs in the shelter that are currently weak and recovering, they need to have medical care, operations, vaccines, and, naturally - they need good food on a regular basis. They are very fragile and we have to take extra good care of them.
To even think their health could decline because of food shortage is very scary to me. In addition, winter is still not over and the cold is an added threat to their recovery... Despite straw and hay, the most important thing for them to remain warm and recover is undoubtedly the food!
If I don't find a solution, the dogs will lose weight and be malnourished… This would be terrible. Dogs give us all their love and devotion, and expect so little in return... The least of our responsability is to feed them, it is their most basic need..."
"Lulu is a 12-year-old female, she has been in the shelter for a couple of months. Just like so many others, she was left out on the street by her owner who no longer wanted her. To think that people are capable of abandoning their old dog just breaks my heart...
Lulu can barely see anything, she also has very weak bones and a heart disease (heartworm). Even though she has started getting better, her journey to recovery is not over, she still needs to gain some weight. Having enough food is vital for her to remain healthy."
“When it comes to our funding, we have several donation boxes at vet stations and local bakeries. The local municipality gives us some small donations, and some private individuals also help whenever they are able to.
More often that not though, myself and the other volunteers have to take from our own pockets to cover the expenses. And with the growing number of dogs under our care, both our medical bills and the need for a regular supply of kibble have increased, we cannot keep up.
We have to manage food supply every day, no matter the circumstances. I was recently affected with COVID but I was always on the phone with other people, trying to find a solution to our food problem, worrying that something will go wrong… Having this campaign succeed would be an incredible relief."
"The Pongo organization was registered in 2003. At the beginning, it was just me and 2 other people who helped when they could. It was tough – especially due to the lack of empathy from the locals. It took us many years and many ups and downs to come to where we are now, but it was all worth it!
Just the fact that I am doing this fulfilling work, helping scared, hurt and abandoned dogs get better and find a great home – makes me the happiest I could ever be! This is my purpose in life, you might say. I've loved animals my whole life and helping them is as natural for me as life itself.
I just hope that people's mentalities will continue to evolve for the better, that everyone will start appreciating what we do more and that generally, people will come to understand that dogs are living, loving creatures. Dogs are such amazing animals, it is a gift to know this kind of love, I wish everyone will come to realize it and treat them with kindness."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We use our Facebook page to post about our rescues and the progress of our dogs. People sometimes help us with money or food but unfortunately, we have to walk an extra mile every time to receive donations and the help we receive is not enough to buy all the kibble we need.
The fact that there are more dogs in our shelter than ever before also means we need more donations and sponsorships than before. It just feels that we are stuck in one place, trying to make things happen all the time. Animal Webaction has saved us many times in the past, we hope this campaign will succeed one more time."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
