Animal Webaction visited the site 17 February 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"There has been a big increase in the number of cats in the shelter recently, we are constantly being asked to intervene and help the street cats. There have been even more accidents than usual, maybe it's because it's winter and the cats are looking for warmth so they come near everything, cars, houses...
We take in a lot of sick cats, some have coryza, scabies, ringworm, some are amputated, others have tumours... These cats are particularly fragile and need good food, but at the moment they are not eating enough. If this continues, the consequences on their health will be felt, their condition will worsen and their recovery will be delayed at best, if not impossible...
Our shelter is a second chance for disabled, dirty, skinny, sick cats that nobody else wants. We need this collection to succeed so we can continue giving them the second chance they deserve!"
"Pike is a male of about 3 years old, he has been in the shelter for a few days. We found him on the street after a report. He has coryza and calicivirus, he is very thin and very fragile. Despite the difficulties he is undergoing, he is very sociable and kind...He needs kibble to recover. He will be in particular danger if we can no longer feed him."
"Hope is a male of about 5 months old, he has been in the shelter for a few weeks. He has several leg injuries, infections due to his advanced coryza and he is very thin. He needs a lot of strength to fully recover, kibble is vital for him!"
"We are running out of kibble to feed the street cats and have been for about 3 weeks. We have been forced to reduce the number of feedings and the quantities of kibble we leave; the cats are not eating enough and we are demoralised, frustrated and tired...
Even though the Moroccan borders reopened a week ago, we know very well that tourism will not resume so easily, and without tourism, it's the whole country that suffers, including the cats. People are out of work and restaurants that used to have a lot of leftover food to give to the stray cats, now have nothing...
We would love for everyone to eat their fill but we are no longer able to provide kibble for the cats, it's very difficult. If nobody helps us, we will have to stop feeding the street cats altogether, it's just unthinkable. Kibbles are the cat's most basic needs and it's a virtuous circle: as soon as we have some, we can focus on neutering and treating the cats, which are also vital things for them!"
"In Marrakech, our association is more and more recognised, we have moral support but unfortunately not much material support, we have no sponsors or anything at all... Because of the pandemic, I have lost a large part of the income from my hotel business.
I got into debt to be able to keep the shelter going, but now I don't see any solution, I don't know what to do. The few donations we receive are not enough to cover all the expenses, the supply of kibble is our biggest challenge at the moment, and we also need medicines to be able to continue treating the cats... We really need some help!"
"We have managed to do a lot of rescues and sterilisations since the beginning of our association, without forgetting the animals in the shelter for whom we ensure a daily follow-up. But even if we have seen an evolution over the last 5 years, there is still a lot to do in terms of animal welfare here, in Marrakech and in the surrounding areas.
We hope to be able to do more sterilisations, to see a reduction in the number of street cats, but again we need help, otherwise it will be impossible. Only with the support of people sympathetic to the animal cause will our commitment bear fruit."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"We post on Facebook to give news of the rescues, ask for help... But unfortunately we receive very few donations. In Morocco, there is no organization that provides kibble, we have contacted foreign organizations but as always, there is no response.
I sacrifice everything in my life to look after the animals, I don't go on holiday, I don't go out, I have no savings... Despite all these efforts, no one can do it alone. I really hope that people will adhere more to the animal cause and help us more, it is essential if we want to continue to help animals."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
