Animal Webaction visited the site 25 February 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
“The number of dogs in our shelter keeps on growing because we always try to help everyone, but with 520 dogs currently, our biggest problem is getting food! Kibble prices have begun to skyrocket a few months back due to the crisis... Our kibble expenses are as high as ever and we need huge quantities to feed our dogs on a daily basis.
We conduct fundraising and knock on every door to solve our problem but people don't donate much for food unfortunately. Our overall donations as well as adoptions have dropped significantly since the pandemic began; we are under lots of stress. Right now we have enough kibble for 2 days and no perspective to get more afterwards...
We are the only ones saving these dogs in the Prijedor region and as much as we appreciate people's verbal support, we also need concrete help to be able to provide the most basic thing for our dogs : food! Having this campaign succeed would be a lifesaver!"
“We rescued Tiara from the local pound a few days ago, she was literally only skin on bones and could hardly walk. We took her to the vet, gave her all the treatments and care she needed. We did everything humanely possible to save her but unfortunately she was too weakened and passed away from a heart attack a couple of days ago… To say that I am heartbroken is an understatement...
Sadly, Tiara is the norm rather than the exception. All the dogs we take from the pound are in a near-death state, the living conditions over there are absolutely dreadful. They don’t have houses, regular meals, or vet care. They are freezing, always wet and in danger because if they don’t starve to death, they kill or hurt each other or die of illnesses.
We rescue as many dogs as we can from there because we can't stand knowing that so many dogs are being left to die. But our mission doesn't stop there, it’s not just a matter of taking dogs to a safer place. They also need warmth, regular meals, healthcare, freedom, love! We need to provide all of that for each dog but without kibble all our efforts are worthless… This campaign is our only hope to avoid a disaster!”
"We rescued Aleppo from the local pound a few weeks back; she has a combination of dermatological diseases and she is frightened of humans. We don't exactly know what her story is but knowing the situation over there, we can easily guess that she was probably beaten and kicked many times... She needs kibble to regain her strength, regain her fur and hopefully, regain her trust in humans one day..."
“The list of issues we face currently feels like a never-ending one. The number of dogs under our care has more than doubled in only a year's time. We have way more responsibilities and expenses than before but we have fewer and fewer donations due to the pandemic and the financial crisis it caused. We also have less and less adoptions due to travel restrictions.
We have huge debts at the vet because all the dogs we take from the pound are ill and need intensive care. We cannot look away from an ill or hurt dog, but then it creates additional expenses we didn’t use to have. If whatever funds we have go on kibble, then there is no money left for veterinary care for the vulnerable dogs...
We are caught between a rock and a hard place because it is simply impossible for us to choose one thing over the other! I am under a lot of pressure and stress, I worry constantly because sometimes it seems we are in a dead-end. We need your help feeding the dogs so we can continue providing them with everything they need!"
“In our country, animal welfare is pretty marginalized, laws are not implemented and authorities don't do anything to stop animal cruelty. They'd rather fund the local death pound...I felt I needed to make a change for the mistreated and abandoned dogs that are destined to die; that's why I decided to get involved in animal protection almost a decade ago.
My dogs are everything to me, I subordinated my life to them. I am proud that I saved all these lives over the years, but I know that if for whatever reason I cease to help them, they will die... We are the only law-abiding and humane shelter in our town, these dogs have no one here to be their voice but us. That is why we fight so hard and we need others to fight alongside us!"
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We get some help from the Italian organization "Prijedor Emergency" but even though they try their best to help us collect funds, they are only a small organization and our expenses are far too huge. I tried to contact other organizations but I never received any answers.
The government or municipality do nothing to help us, they are not interested in our work and do not appreciate it. This campaign is our only hope to gather enough kibble for our dogs!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
