Animal Webaction visited the site 26 February 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"Despite my efforts to sterilise as many stray cats as possible, there are still many abandoned fertile cats in the streets: they continue to reproduce and are therefore more and more numerous to need my help to survive... Totally left to their own devices, they are victims of the mistreatment of the inhabitants of the neighbourhood who do not hesitate to kill them with rat poison! Seeing all these innocent cats living such a hell breaks my heart...
I do everything I can to help them, but unfortunately, due to a lack of means, I had to start reducing their food rations for the last 20 days: I can see that the cats suffer from this, they are much more fragile when they don't eat enough. I have 80 cats in my care, all of them have become more aggressive and some have started to catch diseases because of this rationing.
I have zero kibble left in stock, I buy some with my own savings from day to day, but soon I won't be able to afford it anymore, I have even started to go into debt with the supplier so that they don't starve... I'm so worried that sometimes I go a whole day without eating or drinking, this kibble campaign is my only hope..."
"Poor Cristal is suffering from hepatitis of the liver, which causes her to vomit and run a fever. This disease weakens her a lot and makes her mucous membranes yellowish. I can't take her in at the shelter because she might contaminate the other cats, so I give her treatment on the street until she gets better.
She is very aggressive, and I am worried that she will get worse or catch other infections or diseases because she is also very vulnerable. She needs kibble and needs to eat well to be able to heal, as treatment alone will not be enough to save her..."
"The cats in the shelter are in danger because of the lack of kibble: they have lost weight, have become thinner and the most vulnerable ones are becoming more and more fragile. It hurts my heart, I am afraid that the situation will get even worse and that I will lose cats because of the lack of kibble!
The lack of donations and adoptions has already affected us for a year, and the number of abandoned cats is constantly increasing! Most of the cats I take in are sick cats that their owners cannot afford to treat and that they therefore abandon in front of the shelter's door or at feeding points. I end up with a high number of cats in the shelter that need care, which I take care of, often on credit!
Cats should eat twice a day to be healthy but since I have to buy kibble on credit, I find myself rationing the little I have left and only feeding them once a day... This campaign is my only hope, if it fails I am really scared for my cats health!"
"I picked up Simba from the street because, due to a very severe case of coryza, he has lost one eye and will never see out of the other... This handicap makes him fearful and aggressive, but above all very dependent on me because it is impossible for him to feed himself!
A good quality food is necessary for Simba to regain his strength, knowing that the poor guy is regularly stolen by the other cats because he is blind. I fear that his condition will worsen if he doesn't eat well as he has poor health..."
“I am now forced to go into debt to take care of the cats, a situation that in the long run becomes totally unmanageable... The stray cats have developed infections, they need treatment and unfortunately, due to my limited means, I am not able to afford it. As many of the latest veterinary treatments have been done on credit, I will soon be over-indebted and the vet will no longer accept to treat my animals for free!
The shelter is in crisis and will not be able to continue without help... I already have unpaid bills from 2021, and I've reached a point where I'm stressed out about finding kibble again without having to rack up credit.
It has become difficult to find new donors. Locally, I have no financial support and people are not interested in animal welfare. Between the lack of donations and the large number of cats I care for, the current costs are too high for me to fund alone. I'm really afraid for my cats if this campaign fails..."
"I left my job to run the shelter full time. My day starts at 5 a.m., I clean the shelter, take care of the cats, transport them, feed them, without anyone helping me. When a new, fragile cat arrives here, I am obliged to stay at the shelter to look after it. These cats deserve all our love and tenderness, words cannot describe the place they occupy in my heart and my life!
My action is indispensable, I am the only one to help these cats in my neighbourhood and I know that I am making a difference every day. I help cats who were used to life in a house, but find themselves on the street overnight. I could never give up on a cat in distress because I know very well that if I don't rescue it, there will be no one else to do it, it will die on the street..."
Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"Monique from 'Straycare International' helps me a lot, she does her best to pay my overdue bills, and I have some regular donors who support me as much as they can. Unfortunately, this is not enough to pay the debts and buy kibble...
I have launched online campaigns but it doesn't work, I'm afraid I won't be able to face all these problems, I hope to find associations to help me continue my actions but in the meantime, all my hopes rest on this kibble campaign!
In Salé, it is very rare to find someone who takes care of cats, people encourage me to continue, but without help it is more and more complicated."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund...
