"We have a lot more dogs in the shelter than we used to because the rescues never cease... There are many abandonments, many female dogs constantly give birth on the streets and as much as we try, we cannot catch all of them. A lot of people also come directly to our shelter to bring animals. Some even say things like "You have so many dogs anyway, what’s the problem if you take mine too...?" Of course in most cases, they don't even bring a bag of kibble to help us feed the dog they're leaving behind...
Our shelter is full of animals and every day is a battle to get enough food, it's awful! We have experienced a severe drop in donations since the start of the pandemic, and I haven't seen any improvement so far. The war came and took its place...
Right now we only have a few bags of food left. We have been obliged to cut back the dogs' portions and if no solution is found, we'll probably have to give them bread next... I don't know... it would be such a bad diet for them! We are lost, we do not have enough funds and the donations have dropped so much that we can no longer cope. We need some help!"
"In principle, we try to get good food for the dogs, not one that is extraordinarily good, but one that is acceptable. Cheap kibble has direct consequences on the dogs' health, puppies develop rickets due to the lack of vitamins and proteins, their legs get crooked. Dogs' digestive systems get upset and they suffer from diarrhea.
This has happened to us in the past and we don't want that to happen ever again... Obtaining this kibble would mean we could give the dogs the qualitative food they need, it would be better for their health and would prevent them from falling sick. Most importantly yet, it would mean that we wouldn't have to reduce their portions anymore...
Food is our main stress factor and if we obtain it, we'll also be able to increase the number of rescues. Breeding season is starting, I know that the shelter will soon be full of puppies... We are going to need even more food than we need it now. The success of this campaign will be essential for our dogs already sheltered, and the ones who will soon need our help!"
"Amour is a 7-year-old dog, we took him from the Bacăupound around 3 weeks ago. We don't know what happened with his eye, but we wouldn't be surprised if he got into an accident, a fight, or was just abused... That's unfortunately the lot of many animals in Romania, especially the ones staying in local pounds.
All the dogs we rescued from the Bacău pound were honestly almost dead... Amour's health is not so bad considering, but he has many emotional problems as the result of years of trauma, sickness, fear and abuse. He needs to learn how to love and be loved and most importantly, he must learn to trust humans...
Food will be very important to help us build that trust with him, and make sure his health state doesn't deteriorate. After all he's been through, that's the very least we can do for him..."
"There are so many problems when you run a shelter, from treatments, to vaccinations, to materials for building, transport, cages... Not to mention sterilizing. There are lot of expenses and it is all very stressful.
We raise funds on Facebook and rely heavily on people donating but after the pandemic began, there has been a huge change. Donations have decreased while the number of animals has increased... We are indebted for electricity, water, medical expenses and the list goes on...
The most daunting of all the problems though, is the fact that we struggle to feed the dogs. My mother and I both work as social assistants, we use our own income to provide for the dogs but even combined, it's not enough. I even had to borrow money from friends... At this rate I fear we will not be able to continue. It is mainly a matter of food... Food is always a problem because food always ends!"
"My involvement in the animal cause started with my mother, who is also crazy about animals. We rescued our first dog 7 years ago, she was hit by a car right in front of us. We took her home, treated her, operated on her... We struggled. I slept next to the dog every night because I didn't know what to do next...
Fast forward years later and I am still rescuing animals. Animal rescue is a bottomless pit, once you get into it you can't go back because there is still so much to be done! I am in charge of dealing with everything : rescuing the dogs from the streets, vaccinating them, giving them up for adoption. I take pictures of them and promote them to associations from abroad that have the possibility to give them for adoption.
When dogs go to loving families every month, I am the happiest. I had months when 15, 20 or even 30 dogs left. Those are good months, it happens less often but it happens. When you know what kind of situation you found the dog in, and you get him into the transport car looking healthy and beautiful and you know that he will end up in a wonderful family that loves him; THAT'S the greatest reward. I only wish that more people would get involved and decide to open a shelter, so that all together, we succeed in saving as many dogs as possible."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"In Romania, we as people have no animal consciousness at all. When I tell people I have a shelter, they tell me I am crazy and ask "but why would you help dogs and not help a child?" Thankfully, we have the support of one french organization, they find families for our dogs and they also help us with food, hay, rakes and beds.
But although they try their best to help, it's not enough given the number of dogs we have under our care. Other existing organizations already have shelters to help and it is very difficult for them to take on someone new.
Many private individuals who used to donate have stopped doing so due to the uncertain economic situation. We do not have enough funds and most of all we struggle to feed the dogs. This is why I contacted you, in hopes that you can help us... Even though some people might not think so, dogs are important and they need our help too."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
