Animal Webaction visited the site 19 March 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"With the pandemic and now the war in Ukraine, people are afraid of the future: they abandon their animals and have stopped donating... So there are more and more dogs to save from the streets but I have less and less means to do so! The world situation has recently increased the price of fuel, raw materials... Everything has become more expensive and, unfortunately, my salary is no longer enough to cover all the costs of my rescues...
Today, the 60 dogs in my care eat poor quality kibble because it is the only kibble I can afford to buy since I no longer receive donations. To make this stock last as long as possible, I mix it with rice. The problem is that this diet has already proved to be bad for my dogs in the past: it is impossible for them to defend themselves against diseases or to recover from operations with such a low-nutrient food, and they often even have serious digestive problems...
I devote so much time, money and love to these dogs that I feel a lot of frustration now that I can't help them as I would like to... I can't go on like this, I really want to be able to give them kibble but I can't do it alone! In a few days I won't have any kibble left and I can't afford to buy any more, I need this campaign to succeed more than ever!"
"I have been rescuing street dogs for 6 years now, because I couldn't stand to see them abused or killed by people, hit by cars or caught by the pound where they ended up being euthanised in ignorance... Every day I receive new calls for help about dogs in need, seriously injured or ill, and who have no chance of surviving on the street by themselves!
Today, because of the lack of kibble, I am forced to refuse to save dogs... It breaks my heart, but even if I make room for them at home, I wouldn't know what to feed them! Taking in more dogs without having the means to feed them would be dangerous, fights over kibble would break out and the situation would get out of control...
This situation cannot go on, the street dogs are doomed if I don't manage to find some kibble quickly! I am already using all my salary, my husband's salary and my savings: this campaign is my last hope to save the dogs I take care of and all the others who suffer in the streets and have no chance to survive..."
"I found Maya on the side of a big road, she had just been hit by a car and was deeply weakened by very deep wounds... I took her to the vet but he couldn't save her leg: it had to be amputated.
Maya is now under my responsibility, she is totally dependent on me because since her amputation, she has a lot of difficulty to move. In order for her body to continue to recover well from this trauma, she needs to eat good quality kibble! If she continues to eat a diet low in nutrients, she will unfortunately have a lot of chances to get sick..."
"I take care of absolutely everything without any help: I rescue the dogs from the street, take care of them, clean them, find them food, a family to adopt them... I have to pay all the veterinary bills, the dogs' medical treatments, the repairs to the pens, the kibbles: I have to pay for everything with my own money! It is very difficult to manage such a situation alone, especially as there is no vet in my area, so I have to make daily 90 kilometre trips to the nearest vet clinic...
The reason I have to pay for everything out of my own pocket is that donations are becoming increasingly scarce: since the start of the pandemic, many people have lost their jobs and are therefore very careful with their spending. Unfortunately, animal welfare is not the priority for people, so I have to manage on my own, with the few people who still support me when they can, which is very rarely.
As everything has become very expensive and my salary has not changed for a long time, I have been forced to go into debt with veterinary practices for 2 years now. From time to time I pay back a small part of it so that I can still take dogs there. I tried to get into debt with the kibble suppliers but they refused, so this campaign is my only hope of getting some!"
"I grew up with animals at home and have been feeding strays since I was a child! My parents always taught me to take care of them and to do everything I could to save them. So it was natural for me to take them into my home and do everything I could to give them a second chance.
I put my life on hold for the street animals: all my money is dedicated to them, my husband and I have not bought a house, we never travel, never take a break... Even since I became a mother, dogs are still one of my priorities and I will never stop helping them!
When I manage to rescue dogs from the hell of the streets, to care for them, to feed them and to find them a loving family, I feel very proud! This is why I continue to fight at all costs, why I don't give up despite all the difficulties I face every day!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I tried everything: posting on social networks to raise awareness, creating online fundraisings, contacting foundations in Romania and abroad... I have not managed to create a regular collaboration or partnership. The silence I have to face when I call for help is very difficult for me to deal with. Nowadays, it takes time to raise money for even one bag of kibble, but it is already a great help, any support is important in my situation.
However, I adopt a lot of dogs from abroad, especially thanks to the help I receive from associations in England and Belgium. Unfortunately, the adopters pay for the vaccinations and sterilisations, but give me nothing to feed the dogs... As for the associations, they are already doing their best to help me but they too are in need of donations!
I've tried, I've begged, I've sent thousands of messages and posted hundreds of times on social networks, but people are not as receptive as they used to be: times are hard for everyone, I don't blame them, I just wish I could find a solution to feed my dogs..."
