Animal Webaction visited the site 26 March 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
“We currently have 143 dogs at the shelter. We need a lot of kibble, but I’m not able to buy more at the moment... Prices for kibble have escalated. Even the price of the bread we used to buy sometimes, to compensate when we didn't have better options, has increased! Everything is more expensive now...
Even if food is on the market, I simply don’t have the funds to buy it. Donations have dramatically dropped and the local government has withdrawn our monthly subsidy without any explanation. We haven't received anything from them since the start of this year, it's a big loss for us...
I am really trying to find solutions but at the moment, there are no other options than calling you. We only have kibble for the next six days, and no funds to buy more. If this campaign does not succeed, we will face our worst assumptions…”
"My kibble stock is almost empty and every day it gets emptier... I am extremely stressed about not having enough food to feed my dogs, because I know the consequences it will have... When they don't eat enough, my dogs lose weight and get sick more easily. The lack of kibble has a visible impact on their health and also generates fights that can easily escalate. I have a lot of fragile dogs at the shelter and they will not survive any of these situations...
The quality of the kibble also has a huge impact on the dogs; the difference is very clear: the kibble sent by your organisation is of very good quality, my dogs are in excellent health when they receive it. On the other hand, every time I feed them poor quality kibble, I notice that they eat less, they are visibly tense and they have diarrhoea.
These dogs are my life, I spend all my time looking after them, I give them a home, a warm place to stay on cold nights, but their most important need is to eat! Even if I do my best to offer them the best conditions, without kibble to keep them healthy, all my efforts are in vain..."
“We found Bingo with two other dogs in a parking lot close to a store. Two months ago, the store called me to pick them up and bring them to the shelter. Bingo had already lost one leg but I don’t know how it happened...
He was apparently healthy when he arrived, but after a few days he was tested positive for parvovirus. He lost his appetite and a lot of weight, he became weak, suffered from vomiting and diarrhea... He almost died! Now he is getting better but I still have to keep him isolated so he won't contaminate the other dogs. I hope he will get adopted some day but first he needs kibble to fully recover."
""At the moment we don't have enough funds, without money we can't buy kibble and with so many dogs it is quickly becoming a very big problem... I also have huge debts to the vet because several of my dogs are ill and need very expensive specific treatment. And unfortunately my debts don't stop there: electricity, fuel, kibble...
Donations have dropped and it's becoming increasing difficult, especially since the government pulled the one subsidy they were giving us, without any reason… I constantly worry, I can’t find volunteers and my main fear is : who will take care of my dogs when I won’t be able to do it? I can only hope that one day, someone will come along and decide to take over this responsibility, for the dogs' sake..."
"Dogs are not in my life... they are my life! I've been devoting all my time to them for 17 years. Around here, we are the only ones who care about abandoned dogs, I don’t have any social life. I spend all my days here, I edit documents, records about vaccinations, and adoptions...
Of course, it doesn't stop there, there are also other tasks that are just as important, such as socialising the dogs to prepare them for adoption. I used to do this a lot before, but now it has become more and more difficult because I am not young anymore... But when I think about all my accomplishments, I’m especially proud of the more than 800 dogs I got adopted and the more than 1500 dogs who came through my shelter. I know I made a huge difference for them!
Here in Bosnia, people are not compassionate, the way they treat dogs is terrible and nobody tries to improve things. I have been involved for many years and in all that time, unfortunately, there has been no noticeable change. I wish I could change things on my own, but I can't! I need help."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"People don't sterilise their pets, it's a big problem: even dogs that have owners mate and end up with puppies that are thrown out on the street. These puppies grow up, then they too reproduce and have puppies of their own... it's endless! Even if I do my best to sterilise all the dogs I can, it's never enough... There are always more abandoned dogs on the streets, and therefore more and more dogs to save.
Luckily, as far as the adoptions go, we have the support of an organization based in the Netherlands. They also send us donations whenever possible, in fact they are our only donor left. Unfortunately, I can't help enough with the number of dogs in my care, as rescues are constantly increasing.
I have tried to contact other organizations but it wasn't successful... I don’t conduct online fundraising, I am an older person, I’m not good with new technologies. I tried once on my Facebook account : I published a few pictures of dogs and asked if people wanted to sponsor them but only one person answered... I have tried to reach out to everyone for help but it does not give any good results. This campaign is my last hope to feed the dogs!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
