Animal Webaction visited the site 14 April 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"Life for dogs gets a little easier once winter is gone but unlike the weather, there is one thing that never changes : our need for food! Right now, getting food is our biggest problem. Prices have increased insanely in the last few months; it has never been this hard to cope with all the costs. I have no income of my own and people aren't able to donate to my shelter either because they're affected economically.
I have started cutting down the dogs' portions a few days ago to try and stretch the little I have left. It’s hard for me to see that the dogs are hungry but I don't have a choice! If I don't do it, soon they will have nothing to eat at all... I couldn’t imagine something like that happening, it is very painful. All my hopes and prayers go to this campaign, it is our only solution. My 75 beautiful dogs deserve to have their bellies full!"
"Dogs always end up in my shelter for the same reasons, I find them in all kinds of situations : abandoned, hit by cars, poisoned, injured, sick, starved in our local pounds... I can’t even find words to describe the atrocities I have witnessed over the years.
Of course, all these dogs with the most horrendous past need to be nursed back to life when I bring them to my shelter. At the moment, I have a few dogs that were recently rescued from the streets and the local pounds, they are all very skinny and malnourished.
I have to feed them and manage to keep them alive in all conditions : cold, heat, sickness… they cannot be hungry. Their immune systems are very weak and food is the most important thing for them. If I don't find a solution to get a new stock of kibble, their health will get worse and they could die. I wouldn’t survive if anything happened to them. They mean more than life itself to me. All I want is to see their happy tails wagging..."
"Piko is a 1-year-old male, I rescued him from the local pound. He has been at my shelter for 5 days only and as you can see, he is very malnourished and skinny. Rescuing him was his only chance of survival... His immune system is definitely weaker than the other dogs and his chances of getting better are very slim if he’s not eating enough.
Given the current shortage of kibble, I am really afraid for him because he's the most at risk! Seeing him suffer or starve is the last thing I would ever want... After all he's been through, he deserves to be well taken care of and eat to his heart's content."
"Our shelter is entirely donation-based, it's our only way to survive. I always beg people to be compassionate but it’s a global crisis and people don’t have a lot of ways to help... The current situation is far from great!
My kids have already tried to help as much as they could, but it is not enough. The food, medications, vaccines, surgeries… all that costs a lot of money! I am indebted to the vet and I'm out of funds to buy the next stock of kibble. This is the most pressing issue and we need help solving it, otherwise, it will be disastrous!
I fight for my dogs as I fight for myself but I would like more people to join us in this, every donation goes a long way! I know there are still good people with good hearts and I hope that they will see us and help us through this campaign!"
"II have been involved in this field for many years but there are still many people who do not understand my love and dedication to these animals. People are mean. They are distanced and they keep themselves away from the shelter. On the other hand, I can’t understand their lack of empathy...
We would be happy if more people get involved or at least had some conscience about these dogs’ lives and how dangerous the street is for them. It is not that hard to be kind! I hope we will live to see that day, a day where people share our love for dogs. I hope people will become more aware of how much these little paws can make our lives better.
Until then, I am doing my best to save these dogs, keeping them alive and finding homes for them, and I always will! I always feel proud when the families who adopted dogs from me send me pictures of them in their new homes. I look at them with joy in my heart and tears in my eyes. Recently, six of them got to their new homes : that is what I live for! "
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"Humans are the worst, people are heartless and mean towards animals... Every few days, new dogs appear in our area. Sometimes they're barely alive, sometimes they are already dead. It's awful. I constantly post on Facebook to try and alert people to the situation and raise donations.
Whenever I ask for help, a lot of people have some comments about the crisis and their own problems which I understand but I think everyone could help with a bag of food at least... There are few friends that help us but it is not enough unfortunately. I know the current situation is hard for most people but I have to fight for these animals, I cannot give up!
I'm really afraid that I won't be able to feed my dogs in the short term, that would be a total disaster. I only hope this campaign is successful, I need to keep my dogs alive and there is no other way to do that but through your help!"
