Animal Webaction visited the site 16 April 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Corinne is almost out of kibble to feed the 500 street cats in her care... They will starve if nobody intervenes!

%%%

"Here because of Covid, many people found themselves unable to feed and care for their animals because of the financial precariousness they were experiencing. The abandonment of cats and kittens has exploded since the beginning of the crisis and the situation is unfortunately still ongoing...

I currently take care of 500 cats in Essaouira and surrounding areas with the help of volunteers and their number is increasing, despite our constant efforts to sterilize them. There are more and more cats to feed, more and more kibble to give but at the same time, less and less people able to donate.

We are unable to establish a long-term stock of kibble, we buy it in small doses and have been forced to ration the cat's portions for several months. The cats aren't eating enough, they are weakened and living in the street, they are faed with many dangers on a daily basis: accidents, poisoning, diseases... We cry every day about the fate of these poor animals, we always think we have seen the worst, and yet the worst always happens... We are all tired and personally I feel anxious because I have the impression that the situation is getting stuck... The future of the cats depends on this campaign!"

2. Rico is weakened by a recurrent coryza, he needs kibbles to avoid a relapse!

###

"Rico is a 3 year old male, he lives on the street and is affected by recurrent coryza. At the moment he is doing better but his health is still fragile and he's also vulnerable to the constant dangers of the street. Despite his life of wandering, Rico is used to being fed by the hand of man, he depends completely on us and if we can no longer feed him, he will starve to death or develop other health problems..."

3. Corinne also welcomes 250 very fragile cats in her shelter, they too are threatened by the lack of kibble.

%%%

"I have more and more cats in my care at the shelter, I am constantly being called to rescue animals, I am in a way the dispensary of Essaouira! Most of the cats I take in at the shelter are handicapped or sick and I have to take care of them and take care of the kibble supply alone.

I currently have 250 cats in my care, having so many animals requires a lot of financial and material resources... I never give up trying but I have great difficulty collecting donations. I have been forced to reduce the quantity and quality of the cat food at the shelter.

I have to make difficult choices: postpone treatments, sterilizations... All this because of the lack of means! The current situation is going from bad to worse and it scares me, I am afraid for the future of my cats and my shelter..."

4. Heavily handicapped, Skippy depends on Corinne for food.

###

"Skippy is a male of about 4 years old, one day I saw a post and decided to take him to the shelter. With his handicap, he could not have survived very long in the street... Today he is blossoming, he is a lovely cat and very sociable with humans and other cats. But like many others, his survival depends entirely on me! His handicap prevents him from managing on his own and a return to the street is unthinkable for him. He needs me to survive and that of course includes my ability to feed him..."

5. The drastic decrease in donations compromises Corinne's actions and prevents her from buying kibble for the cats!

###

"Everyone in Essaouira encourages me in my actions but when it comes to helping me it's a different story; very few people actually get involved. Here the mentalities do not evolve quickly and the Moroccan authorities do nothing to solve the problem of stray cats either.

90% of my help comes from abroad but given the current economic situation, I receive less and less donations! When you have donations, everything is fine: you can help the cats in the streets and in the shelter to live better and you can also use the money from the kibble that you didn't buy on sterilizations and treatments. But without sufficient donations, all our actions are impacted and it's a whole population of cats that suffers!

I am doing my best to find solutions but if the situation continues, I am afraid that I will not be able to welcome any more cats in the shelter and that I will not be able to provide for the needs of the street cats either... Any help is welcome to allow us to avoid this catastrophic scenario..."

6. Corinne isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep the cats from starving.

###

"It's been 10 years since I've been in Morocco, I was first in the south where I was a volunteer at the Sara shelter. In 2016 I made the decision to come to the countryside of Essaouira, this is where I established my shelter. I currently have more than 250 cats under my roof, not counting those on the streets that I also take care of with the help of volunteers that I affectionately call my neighborhoods' godfathers" and "godmothers".

I am proud to have taught them how to care for street cats, and I am proud to work with them towards a common goal, the improvement of animal welfare in Morocco, on our scale. The sterilization program that I lead with the help of a Swiss foundation allows us to sterilize 500 cats per year, which is a great progress! However, there is still a lot to be done to change people's mindsets so that cats can live here in harmony with humans. I hope to live long enough to see this dream come true..."

7. If this campaign succeeds, Corinne will not receive money but 1400 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

###

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

8. Interventions and rescues are relentless while Corinne's supporters have already done their best to help, she is asking us to step in.

"At the local level I am very well known for my actions, but I am only contacted for rescues, never to help me! I dream that one day Morocco will finally take in hand the animals of its country, but it is only a dream...

Internationally, I have the support of private donors and of a foundation in Switzerland which helps me to finance sterilizations. Unfortunately everyone is in the same situation, people are financially impacted and can't give as much as before. We need hope and support... Please don't forget the animals of Morocco!"

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

Liste des récoltes échouées

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

10. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibble, many cats are left to starve on the street!
