Animal Webaction visited the site 14 May 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I have 700 dogs in my care that are split between the shelter and my home. This number is increasing all the time... The accumulation of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine has turned everything upside down, people can no longer afford to take care of an animal, they abandon them in front of my shelter's door and nobody donates anymore. For the same reasons, adoptions are becoming increasingly rare.
Unfortunately, because of the increase in the number of dogs in my care and the drop in donations, I have been forced to ration the dogs' daily portions since last February: they don't eat enough kibble, they have already started to get weaker, to lose weight... I'm afraid they'll get sick or die if I don't find a solution very soon!
Now I have to get kibble from day to day because I don't have any stock... The problem is that I have already taken out several loans to buy food for them, the more time passes, the less people help me, and the more I have to go into debt. This situation makes me sad, I feel powerless. I am fighting, but if no one helps me then it is hopeless for my dogs..."
"I rescued little Aldo 3 weeks ago: he is extremely weak and suffers from a skin disease. He is lethargic and distressed by his past abuse... Today I give him first price kibbles because I can't afford to buy better ones, but he won't survive if this situation continues! To survive, he must eat quality kibble and in sufficient quantity... I am very afraid for him, he is so weak..."
"Dogs in the streets roam freely and rely on people to feed them, but unfortunately this almost never happens... Every day they risk being hit by a car, poisoned, beaten... They live a hell of a life on the street! There is no pound here, so I'm the only one who takes care of them.
I never leave dogs in the street and I never refuse them when they are brought to me at the shelter, because even if my resources are insufficient, I am sure that with me at least they would not risk dying alone in the street in atrocious suffering: I do my best to give them a second chance because if they were not brought to the shelter, they would die!
I fear that the dogs will start to get sick or die because they are not getting the food they need to be healthy... This kibble campaign is my last hope, I really need it to save the street dogs!"
"There are no volunteers coming to help me, so I have to pay employees. I personally take care of the administrative tasks, managing our social media pages, donation and adoption campaigns, and I also take care of the dogs as much as I can.
The situation in Ukraine has had a definite impact on charity. Fewer people are donating, fewer people are adopting, the price of petrol has gone up, and the number of dogs in need is increasing...
People who could donate to us or to other shelters in Romania are now donating more to Ukraine and adopting the dogs that are victims of this atrocious war. We have much less money to buy food and take care of our dogs... The situation is catastrophic, I rely on you, we need your help..."
"I reached my limits a long time ago, but I can't give up on all my dogs! As difficult and exhausting as it is, I have to keep fighting for them, there is no other choice. I am very proud of the number of dogs we have rescued over the years. They may not be living their best life here, but they would probably be dead without this shelter.
I always do everything I can to help these animals, and I wish people would help us more... There are so many dogs and only a handful of us. We absolutely need people's help because we don't have the resources to do everything that is necessary for the welfare of these dogs. I desperately hope this kibble campaign to succeed, we need it urgently..."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"The dog shelter in Smeura (Tierhilfe Hoffnung Tierheim Smeura) sometimes helps us with some food, but not much, they too have limited means. They also sometimes take dogs from the shelter and put them up for adoption.
Every day is a struggle, I regularly go through the bureaucracy to get public aid and I contact foreign organisations but it never works... I ask for donations through Facebook, but we really don't get much money. This kibble campaign is our last hope to feed the dogs!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
