Animal Webaction visited the site 22 May 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"With what is happening in Ukraine, there has been a 20% increase in the price of kibble! At the same time, our donations have fallen sharply, we barely received 100 euros last month... it's really not enough. All put together, this really complicates our activity with the street dogs; we can't do as many sterilizations anymore, the dogs are proliferating more and more and feeding them all has become extremely difficult.
We are obliged to ration the kibble as much as possible and we give bread instead... The dogs do not eat their fill and if this continues, the worst is yet to come. The municipality has made a truce of a few months in the slaughters but hunger is already making the dogs more aggressive and I know that if there is the slightest problem, the inhabitants will call the municipality and the slaughters will start again...
There is also an increase in dogs being hit by cars, suffering from fractures and various injuries... Dogs are hungry and the hungrier they are, the further they venture to feed and the more they put themselves in danger, it is a vicious circle. The only solution for the dogs to be safe and sound is for them to have full bellies and for that we desperately need your help!"
"At the shelter too, we have been forced to drastically reduce portions for several weeks, there just isn't enough to feed everyone... The dogs eat rations of kibble rations and wet bread in small quantities. This is far from enough, many dogs have lost weight... it is unbearable.
The dogs in the shelter are the most vulnerable ones, many of them are sick or have had amputations ; the very poor nutritional intake they are currently receiving puts them in great danger. They are hungry, they don't heal as quickly and their immune systems are further weakened, which can quickly lead to additional health problems.
I feel a lot of frustration and despair, I'm constantly wondering how much longer we can go on or if I'll find dead dogs when I come to the shelter... it's a haunting really. It's imperative that the campaign succeeds, my dogs' survival is at stake! If no solution is found, I'll be forced to release the dogs on the streets and that's just not an option either..."
"Lola is a female of about two years old, she was reported to us, she had several bites on her paw and several fractures with infections. She is very very thin and also very shy, she can't integrate with the other dogs in the shelter. Poor thing is so sickly...she absolutely needs more kibble to survive and hopefully recover."
"We are indebted to the kibble supplier so we do our best to try to reduce our expenses, we make less orders and we ration as much as possible, that's all we can do... My guest house, thanks to which I financed the shelter before, has resumed a little of its activity but the income remains for the moment much lower than our needs...
We lack food, medicine, deworming... and with the price increases it has become unfeasible for us. I hope that we will be able to pay back our debts soon, but with the current situation and the few donations we receive, I have little hope that things will improve.
What should we do? Reduce the number of animals and put them at risk? Stop the association? I don't know anymore. I fear that if we continue in this way, we may have to close the shelter... Our only hope at this point is to be able to feed our animals with the help of this campaign."
"Of course, the creation of our association has had positive consequences for the dogs of Marrakech because our rescues save lives! Without our help, we know that most of these dogs would not have survived and it is in this sense that our actions are tangible. But unfortunately on the scale of Marrakech and in front of the very high number of stray animals, we have the impression that what we have been trying to achieve for years is insignificant... And we know that without external support, we will not be able to have a real impact on the local ecosystem.
I would really like people to help us, to support us, by sharing publications or via spay/neuter campaigns. The more people we can mobilize, the more our cause will be heard. We embarked on this adventure for the sake of the animals, but without support or funding, we will not be able to move forward."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We post regularly on social media to try and develop our community. The "Petite Thérèse" federation shares our posts, it is the only help we receive. We have some followers on Teaming, 98 people to be exact, unfortunately it is largely insufficient in view of our needs. It is important that people help us because there are not many of us and we can't do everything without resources. We can't solve all the problems, do all the interventions without substantial support behind us."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
