Animal Webaction visited the site 30 May 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"The number of dogs at the shelter is increasing constantly, people are throwing out dogs in front of our doors or on the road to the shelter and even dog catchers from the pound bring dogs saying that if we don’t take them, they will euthanize them... We have too many dogs but we cannot turn our heads away because we know that if we don't help them, they're bound to die...
Unfortunately, a large number of dogs implies a large amount of expenses and our finances aren't keeping up! We've been experiencing a massive drop of donations due to the war in Ukraine and petfood prices have gone up by 20% at least... Food has become one of the most expensive items we have to provide for the dogs and we are struggling a lot.
At the moment, we have enough kibble left for 4 days. We want to be able to continue saving lives by providing for the dogs we already have and by continuing to rescue the ones who need it. Unfortunately without kibble all of this becomes impossible! We have tried everything from appeals on our Facebook and Instagram pages to fundraising but Animal Webaction is the only option that ever goes through... We need you!"
"The impeding lack of kibble scares us because we know that if we can't give the dogs enough food, we will quickly see changes in their behavior as well as their physical well-being. They will become unsatisfied, they will start losing weight and immunity and they will become more aggressive towards each other. They will start attacking each other, as they do in pounds. Old dogs and ill dogs will be affected the most and the consequences might be fatal...
A vast percentage of the dogs we have at the shelter actually came from situations like these... "survival of the fittest", kill-or-be-killed type of situations, on the streets and perhaps more especially at the local pound. We saved them and brought them here so they could be safe and more simply put, so they could avoid an inevitable and cruel death. The imminent shortage of kibble puts us at very high risk. Imagine having 550 starving dogs...that would be an absolute disaster....We can't let that happen!!"
"River is an older dog, he's around 12 years old, he was at the pound, we rescued him from there. I don't know how he got there but knowing that such old dogs can end up in a place like this truly breaks my heart. River is very skinny and blind, he is defeated and very weak, you can tell he's traumatised. He is clealy 100% dependent on us to survive. He needs regular meals and care and if we fail to provide it, he will not make it..."
"Funding the shelter was much easier a few years back, but now we have 3 times more dogs, more responsibilities and expenses! The crisis has also been there in the meantime and has left a lasting mark. Our donations are continuously dropping along with global events, first COVID, now the war...
We try to collect money through posts on our social media, some private individuals help us but the few donations we receive aren't enough to help us provide for all our dogs. Even our partner organisation "Prijedor Emergency" can no longer manage to provide for everything, our vet costs are too high considering the large number of dogs in extremely poor condition we rescue from the pound.
We're struggling a lot and we are expecting the few months to come to be even more challenging... Summer is just around the corner and we know from experience that our adoptions will decrease during that time. We want to keep our dogs in optimal condition – well provided, with enough food and space, with proper vet care but it takes a lot of finances that we simply don't have currently!"
"Sometimes I feel that our actions have made an impact on people's mentality and awareness but honestly it's hard to be 100% assertive while making this assessment because there have never been more abandoned dogs needing to be saved than now... We are so sad and disappointed to see that many animals are still being abandoned, tortured and hurt on a daily basis.
We wish we could provide free sterilizations, microchipping and vaccinations for all dogs in the area, so that the dogs would be put in a public register of pets and it would be easier to control abandonment. But we cannot manage everything on our own and initiatives from the municipality are nonexistent. They just finance the pound and they wish to hide everything that is going on there...
These dogs only have us, we are literally the only ones who can save them from death but without more support, we fear that we will no longer be able to come to their help. We need you!"
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles
"During summertime, everything slows down, donations decrease as people save money for vacations and travel; adoptions also decrease as people have other priorities. Unfortunately, we can't survive without outside help and we can't stop or take a break either! Our dogs need us every day...
Our partner organization has already done its utmost to help us and private donations are down significantly. If this campaign fails, all of our dogs will suffer. It really is that simple..."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
