Animal Webaction visited the site 28 May 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I welcome more and more dogs to the shelter... The pandemic and now the war in Ukraine has changed the situation: the local population is abandoning animals more than ever and the prices are increasing, while donations to our association continue to decrease... I do my best to give enough food to the 370 dogs I have rescued from the streets, but unfortunately it has become almost impossible to manage alone.
In this current situation, adoptions are also much rarer than before. People are finding it harder and harder to cope financially, to keep their jobs, feed their families, pay their bills... We are in the middle of a global crisis that affects everyone, and street dogs need our help more than ever!
So my shelter has reached its maximum capacity, and in order to feed the shelter dogs, I have had to reduce the amount of kibble I give each day to avoid running out. The problem is that in a few days I won't have anything at all... With the current heat, dogs will not survive long on an empty stomach! The only solution I found was to buy the cheapest kibble on the market, but the last time this happened the dogs got sick: their digestion problems caused them to have severe bouts of diarrhea! I'm afraid that I'll see my dogs become weak and die, and that there will be fights over the little kibble I have left... I need this campaign to work, I need your help to save them!"
"The current world situation is not only difficult for human beings: more and more dogs are abandoned in the street, adoptions are at half mast, the local population can no longer afford to feed them, and I can no longer afford to buy kibble, as the price has increased so much since the war in Ukraine...
I have always wanted to save dogs in difficulty, but I find myself unable to do so due to a lack of funds... Unfortunately, if I don't take them in at the shelter, the dogs are caught by the pound and are then euthanised in the worst conditions! When I could afford it, I used to offer to sterilise stray dogs with my own money to limit their spread, but I can no longer do this, much to my regret...
There are many dogs that we cannot save anymore! Recently, a villager asked us to get his 5 puppies back from his dog, and wanted us to sterilise her. I did it, on credit... On top of that, I had to refuse the rescue of 6 dogs last week because I couldn't afford to feed or care for them, I'm already far too indebted... It breaks my heart!"
"Alba is only 3 months old but is already in a terrible state of health. She was abandoned at the same time as her sister, who died from parvovirus. This disease is highly contagious and often leads to the death of the infected animal very quickly. We brought Alba to the shelter a week ago and discovered that she is also positive for Parvovirus.
She is currently being treated, but we need to act quickly as the virus causes her to lose weight, which weakens her further. It also causes vomiting and very impressive haemorrhagic diarrhoea, and ultimately a deficit in her immune system. Kibbles are vital for Alba as she is so weak that she could easily get other diseases: she needs the essential nutrients to recover! If we don't give her good quality kibble, she will get worse and she could die..."
"A few volunteers sometimes come to help us at weekends, but this is increasingly rare! So we have to employ paid staff to make sure the dogs get the attention they need, and paying their salaries is getting complicated! We are getting less donations than before the pandemic, have more expenses and the dogs are getting more and more numerous... I don't see any solutions, and at the same time I can't imagine leaving them to their sad fate!
The more time passes, the more debts I have with the kibble supplier and the vets. Unfortunately, the more dogs I have in need, the more I need to feed and care for them! Without this successful kibble campaign, I don't know what will happen to my 370 dogs... I need your help, all together, if we join forces, we can save them!"
"My mother, Anda, started taking care of street dogs at a very young age. When she realised the misery in which they lived, she decided to create this shelter to give them a second chance! I owe everything to my mother: thanks to her, I understood how responsible we were for our pets, and that without us they wouldn't survive on the streets...
So I started studying to be a veterinarian: in two years I will have my diploma, and I intend to do everything I can to help animals in need, those who have no owner because they have been abandoned or because they were born on the street. However, I am realistic and after all these years in the shelter, I know that we cannot save all the dogs. However, that won't stop me! The more time passes, the more hope we have, because if we lose it, then the dogs have no chance of knowing the happiness of a loving family... Our fight will continue whatever the cost!"

"We are lucky to have the support of Sabine in France and Celestia in Belgium. Without their help, I could not have managed on my own... Unfortunately, despite their many efforts to raise donations for our shelter, the global crisis is catching up with us and we need help: appeals for donations are not working!
We continue to promote dogs for adoption in order to give them the chance to live in a loving home, but also to leave new places at the shelter for new dogs in need. But since the war in Ukraine adoptions have drastically decreased...
Before the pandemic, an English association provided us with kibble but since the Brexit they can no longer afford it! So I tried to contact other associations that could help us by offering free sterilisations, kibbles or other material, but nobody answered us... We don't really see any other options than this kibble campaign at the moment..."
