Animal Webaction visited the site 11 June 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"The number of abandoned animals has skyrocketed lately, I receive more and more calls to come and take dogs, sometimes I even find dogs with gunshot wounds, abandoned in front of the veterinary office... Unfortunately, the public authorities close their eyes to this kind of mistreatment, nobody intervenes... But personally, it is impossible for me to stay with my arms crossed!
The thing is, taking care of all these dogs in the shelter, sterilizing them, vaccinating them, feeding them, it generates additional costs for the association which is already in crisis... The shelter is overcrowded and the supply of kibble is a serious problem. Everyone is affected by the crisis, many donors send me messages, apologizing that they're no longer able to help...
I've already had to reduce the kibble portions and I started to add bread to fill the dogs' stomachs. But with the little quantities I have left, we will only be able to hold on for a few more days... This situation is terribly distressing. If I can't find a way to get kibble quickly, I'm afraid my dogs will get sick or starve to death..."
"The shelter is completely overcrowded at the moment! There are all kinds of profiles: dogs who have been living here for years, others who have arrived recently and are particularly fragile, suffering from severe malnutrition, dehydration or serious infections... One thing is for certain, it's that none of these dogs can now survive without my help.
The problem is that the current lack of nutrition is hurting their immune systems, the dogs are developing kidney stones which are causing them to have blood in their urine more frequently. After consulting with my vet, it turns out that this is due to poor quality food and insufficient portions.
It scares me because my dogs are very fragile, they will not be able to survive long on this diet... This campaign is my only hope to feed my dogs who suffer from weaknesses. If we don't find kibble urgently, my dogs will not survive it!"
"Layka is a female of about one and a half years old. She is very shy and fearful, it is impossible to catch her or approach her and unfortunately she is very weakened by a scabies resistant to treatments. It is necessary for her to be able to eat her fill every day or her infection may spread even further and she could die..."
"We are suffering from an atrocious lack of resources. Donations have decreased enormously since the pandemic, people are in need and have still not overcome the crisis. I receive messages from former donors who apologize for not being able to help anymore...
We are lost, we have no visibility, we live from day to day. We are in crisis and I don't know how to move forward. The municipality does not pay me any subsidy and does not help me in any way, they only capture dogs and bring them to the shelter, without any other contribution to the expenses of vaccination, sterilization, care...
The finances of the association are at their lowest and even the most trivial acts such as transporting dogs by car are becoming almost unfeasible due to the increase in the price of fuel. I have numerous veterinary debts that I am no longer able to pay off either. I have no funds, no donations and I can't buy kibble. I am afraid that everything will fall apart... It would break my heart to see the hard work of many years end like this..."
"Our association organizes sterilization and vaccination campaigns for strays, we offer a home to vulnerable dogs, we offer them the necessary care, a life away from the abuse they have experienced, we look for a family to adopt them... Over the years, I think that our actions have helped to reduce the proliferation of stray dogs and diseases in the neighborhoods where we act.
But if we had sufficient means, we could do so much more! Renovate the shelter, sterilize more dogs, buy kibble, rescue and care for more dogs... And if the public authorities were on our side, our actions would have an impact on a larger scale. Instead of capturing dogs and killing them, the municipality should allocate grants to animal protection associations. After all, we are acting for the animal welfare, but also for the local community!"
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Donations have dried up as a result of the successive world crises and our actions have been durably impacted. The lack of means paralyzes us and the supply of kibble is particularly complicated... I really hope that this campaign will succeed, because at this stage, it is our only hope to feed the dogs in the short term! I also hope that things will get back in order, that the crisis my donors are going through will end because my association depends entirely on donations..."
