"My dogs can't stand a day without kibble and at the moment they hardly eat enough! I have to be careful because when they are hungry they can become irritable and start fighting with each other. It's very hard, I live in this house with my mother, where we have no running water and no electricity, and the very hot and dry weather makes it even harder for my 50 dogs who need even more water....
The well I had in my garden has dried up, so I have to buy water or ask my neighbours to give me some... I depend on people's donations for absolutely everything, but at the moment many of them can't afford it anymore! I am alone to manage everything, and the people in the village expect me to take care of all the dogs they don't want, without giving me any help...
If I can't get kibble very quickly, I will have to ration my dogs more, knowing that some of them are sick and can't eat bad quality kibble, otherwise they might vomit or develop stomach problems... It's hard to sleep every night thinking about how to get kibble or how many dogs will be left on my doorstep the next day! I'm always worried that dogs that are already sick will die if I don't give them enough kibble as they are already very fragile. I really need this campaign to succeed, it's the only hope I have left..."
"I found Negrutu in the streets of Bucharest. He was already very weak and I think a car hit him because he was limping. Despite visits to the vet, his leg doesn't really heal and makes him suffer, so I give him kibble and take care of him to reduce his pain... At the moment, the vet doesn't think that Negrutu needs any special medicine for his lame paw, but it might be the case one day. That's why I have to keep feeding him enough good quality kibble so that his condition doesn't deteriorate further and his paw doesn't get worse!"
"My main priority is the health and safety of the dogs: I try to take care of them as much as I can, but I can only provide minimal conditions with maximum effort! Before the pandemic, I worked from time to time, and everything I earned was for my dogs. My family used to help me too, but now they can't help me either. I have asked a few organisations for help several times, but no one has responded positively. Donations have also decreased, so I have tried to borrow money from people I know, but it is not enough. For now, I just have to keep my fingers crossed that someone will hear my prayers...
As I speak, I have no money, and my bank account is empty... My fence is barely standing, so I have to protect them from the road, the house is falling apart and I have to fetch water outside twice a day, even though my back hurts. Despite all the difficulties I go through on a daily basis to save the dogs, I will never stop because they risk being injured or starving to death living on the streets! I need your help to provide kibble for my dogs, it is the only way to keep them alive!"
"My home keeps dogs alive and well, it provides a safe place for those who were sick, abandoned and left behind, but everything is very, very hard these days! I have no resources to speak of, as I have serious health problems. My mother has a small pension which we use mainly for the dogs, and my brother gives some money when we are in need! I am lucky that my family shares my passion and contributes a lot when they can...
However, nothing is easy. In the last 9 years, since I started caring for these dogs, I have been forced to quit my job. I have tried to find help, but no one wants to help animals in need. I do everything I can do on my own, without anyone, but there are things I can't do and every service I need, like a repair or a sterilisation, puts me in debt...
I fear that with the world situation, war, pandemic, economic crisis, the situation will get even worse: more people will abandon their animals and more of them will die! In any case, I never give up and I always try to help each of these dogs with food and medicine, but I need support. I really hope that one day I will find other organisations to help me with kibble... For now, the good of my dogs is in your hands and in the success of this campaign..."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"It all started when my mother rescued 5 dogs from the street and brought them to our flat in Bucharest. At that time, there was a big problem with the authorities catching the dogs on the street and euthanising them... I also took some dogs myself and we decided to bring them to the countryside to have proper living conditions.
However, in this area there is no pound or public service for abandoned dogs, nor any local authority that can help owners when their dogs are sick, so the dogs and even their owners need us here. One of my biggest regrets is not being able to educate the locals: it's a big responsibility to own and care for a dog, I wish people here understood that!
On a more positive note, one of my biggest successes is the number of dogs I have managed to get adopted. When I see pictures of how they are treated by their new families... It fills my heart with joy! The dogs are well cared for, they go on holiday, they have plenty to eat. When I think about how it all started for them on the streets and compare it to their new situation, I am very proud that I managed to give them a second chance!"
