Animal Webaction visited the site 21 August 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"With 350 dogs, my shelter is completely overcrowded... I can't take in any more dogs, not even the ones in distress who are living on the streets and being chased away by the villagers. Very few people feed them or take care of them, others call the pound directly... Where they end up being euthanised! I feel overwhelmed, there are so many dogs to feed, I am almost out of kibble and people keep abandoning their dogs...
I feel frustrated and worried: I don't get any help from the public authorities, and I have used all the resources I have! I organised a fundraiser a few weeks ago which allowed me to buy a few bags of kibble. Unfortunately, this small stock is running out very quickly: I could only last a few days and I don't have the funds to buy more kibble!
I try to give all the dogs I take in decent living conditions so that they can stay in the shelter for a limited period and then be adopted... The problem is that there have been few adoptions for a while, so I keep the dogs in the shelter longer, and when I finally manage to organise adoptions, the empty places don't stay empty for long! All these dogs need me before they can be adopted, I am their only hope. I need this campaign to succeed so that I have enough kibble to feed all my dogs and keep them healthy, to give them a second chance...!
"When dogs are starving, they start fighting with each other... Thanks to the small fundraising I did, I was able to buy a few bags of kibble to avoid this kind of situation which I want to prevent at all costs! Unfortunately, without real means, I cannot buy good quality kibble, so their health is compromised if this kibble campaign does not work...
I immediately notice the bad consequences that this type of kibble has on the health of the dogs: some have developed digestive problems, diarrhoea, the food is not assimilated and they even lose weight. If I don't find a solution to get kibble very soon, I'll have to reduce the amount I give them and they may not only fight or get sick, but also starve to death!"
"Lassie was hit by a car, her back leg was broken and she has had a lot of trouble walking since. Following her accident she was placed in our care, we took her to the vet and she stayed with us for 4 months. She needs more kibble than the other dogs as the fracture in her leg is still not healed and she cannot use it properly. She needs nutrients from good quality kibble, or her injury will not heal and she will have no chance of being adopted..."
"Between the sheer number of dogs I have in my shelter, the amount of kibble I have to buy to feed them all, all the repairs I have to pay for at the shelter, and the adoptions that are getting fewer and fewer, I am completely overwhelmed... I already have so many debts to the vet and the kibble suppliers that this campaign is literally my last hope...
Before the pandemic, I was funding the kibble through online fundraising, including Facebook, and donations I received from people abroad, but now people can't donate as much as they used to. With all the difficulties caused by the war in Ukraine, most of the funds are redirected to the shelters in Ukraine, which leads to a huge decrease in the help given to the shelters in Romania.
I also hope that the number of abandoned animals will decrease and that more sterilisation campaigns will be carried out. At the moment, as people do not sterilise their dogs, the number of abandoned dogs will increase again and again..."
"It all started with my mother helping stray dogs, when we lived in a flat where we took in a few, then we moved into a house and a few years ago we built the shelter here. I have always been around animals since I was a child, and now as an adult I am proud to be in my 5th year at the veterinary university. In the future, I plan to open a veterinary clinic in a rural area. I really try to do my best for these animals, I have managed to give many dogs up for adoption and thanks to my actions they are now happy in their new homes!
We try to do as much as we can for all the dogs, and we provide whatever is needed for the dogs in our care, but due to our limited capacity and resources, there are some dogs that we cannot save. Considering that since the beginning of the year we have sterilised about 200 dogs, I think we have helped to reduce the number of abandoned animals. My rescues are necessary because there are so many of them and only very few charities that help them. I really do everything I can, but without the help of others, and on my own, my actions are limited..."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"Most of the funding comes from private donations, 95% from abroad. The amount has decreased, especially since inflation, and in general, it is more or less the same people who donate every month. So far we have used all the resources we have, we have asked for help from everyone we know, including the two sponsors we have in Romania and abroad. We also contacted organisations to help us with our sterilisation campaigns. Unfortunately, they could not give us a positive answer. At the moment, we have no new partnerships...
We usually do online fundraising, but we try to do it only once a month, because people can't give more frequently. All this is not enough, for example, we set up an online fundraiser on Facebook recently, but as you can see, it is not working very well, and we really need more help... Even the smallest donations can help us stay afloat."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
