Animal Webaction visited the site 31 August 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"There are more and more dogs on the streets lately, especially purebred dogs. They have definitely been abandoned by their owners, it's very obvious that they are not used to street life. The consequences are disastrous because they end up getting attacked and injured by other dogs quite early on... We've recently brought several new dogs to the shelter fitting that exact description. There is also an increased number of puppies at the shelter, as the Animal Control only takes the adult dogs, i.e. the mother, and leave the puppies in the streets...
The shelter capacity is maxxed out and it creates additional issues : we need more food, and more veterinary care. The thing is, people are less and less able to help through donations due to the current state of the economy and the instability of their own finances. We had long term donors who notified us that they could no longer help us because they just do not have extra funds to spare anymore.
Prices for kibble have also skyrockted in the last few months, we're struggling to even provide the dignified minimum to our dogs and our stock is now close to zero... If no solution is found, we'll soon be left with nothing to feed our dogs, this terrifies us! Food is our number one concern, it's the basis for the dogs' survival and the lifeblood of our organization... Without it, there is no future for either..."
"We’re trying our best to provide the best care and food for our dogs but given our current situation, we've had no choice but to reduce their portions to make sure that every dog gets something. We don’t think they eat as much as they should, or as well as they should, for that matter.
We're mixing kibble with rice to try and stretch the little we have left but for the many vulnerable and older dogs we have on site, that diet is just not suitable. Their condition is getting worse, as they do not get sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals.
Due to the increased volume of Animal Control activities, we’re also under physical and psychological pressure to hurry up and save as many dogs as we can; but without food to approach them or space to shelter them... there is no way for us to stop these barbaric acts and help more dogs in need. We desperately need some help!
"Felix is 2-year-old male, he's been at the shelter for about 15 days. Just like so many others, his owner left him on the streets. This was obviously a house dog, he couldn’t navigate the street life and defend himself from the attacks of other dogs; he had infected wounds all over his body and was very skinny. At the moment, he is recovering from these attacks, he’s receiving an antibiotic treatment and he is still very malnourished. He needs quality food to gain weight and recover fully."
"We mainly conduct fundraisers through our Facebook group. We usually hold auctions of items we own (donated or personal items), dog accessories, jewelry, clothing, books... We sell these items and use the money to buy kibble for our dogs.
But lately it has become more and more difficult to find people willing to help us, inflation is affecting everyone. Naturally, the number of people who can afford the expenses of a dog has also decreased considerably. So we have more abandoned dogs, and less adopted dogs...
We have tried to contact public institutions, the municipality, private companies, and have asked them to help us with donations of kibble but unfortunately we have not received any positive response. We have debts with the vet, the kibble supplier... providing for the most basic needs of our dogs has become almost impossible, it is devastating! We appeal to you because we can no longer do it alone..."
"Everything about dogs makes me happy! I'm especially happy when we get even the worst dogs back on their feet, through veterinary care, food, patience... and that they are later adopted into a loving family. The whole process is something I can't describe. It is the best feeling ever!
Every time we succeed in getting a dog adopted, it also allows us to take in another dog in need. Because even though our long-term actions have helped reduce the number of stray dogs, the reality is that there is still so much to do... The Animal Control Unit is always very active and is becoming more so at this time. We believe that this increased activity is related to the national elections that are coming up in October.
We recently rescued a dog from the hands of the brigade, we tried to heal her, but unfortunately she died shortly after we took her in. The intervention of the brigade was so brutal that they broke the jaw of the dog, she could not heal... These events are particularly cruel and difficult for us to conceive... that's why we know we have to continue because these dogs can only count on us!"
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
