We cannot let the street cats and those at Hajar's shelter starve!

Disaster! In Morocco, Hajar has almost no kibble left to feed the street cats and those at her shelter, they will starve!

Animal Webaction visited the site 29 September 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Hajar is running out of kibble to feed the 80 street cats who depend on her. They will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

"I distribute kibble to 80 street cats in different parts of the city... They're not safe at all, out there in these conditions; they suffer from disease, violence, abuse and hunger. And it's getting worse and worse! People keep abandoning their cats in the streets, especially females in heat or pregnant ones. On top of that, breeding season has started, so there are constantly new cats and litters of kittens that will only know a miserable existence on the streets... It's a vicious circle that I can't stop on my own, despite my efforts to sterilise!

Cats who experienced life in a home and regular meals do not survive once outside... Malnutrition weakens their immunity, which exposes them to many highly contagious and often fatal diseases (scabies, ringworm, coryza...). Without my feeding action, these cats are doomed! But I'm unfortunately greatly impacted by inflation... Everything has become too expensive, donations are falling and I have debts: I cannot buy kibble and I have been rationing the cats' portions for several weeks... It saddens me deeply, especially when I see their health deteriorating! The success of this Animal Webaction campaign is my only hope to feed the cats and save them from certain death..."

2. Caramel suffers from malnutrition and ringworm: if this campaign fails, she won't survive!

###

"Caramel is a very young, very fearful cat that I have seen on the street since she was born. She suffers from ringworm, she is skeletal and very dehydrated... The harsh conditions of life on the streets and the cruel lack of kibble make her very fragile.

I really fear that her condition will deteriorate very quickly and that she will catch other more serious infections... She absolutely needs to eat well to strengthen her immune system and fight against diseases. This campaign must not fail, her survival depends on it!"

3. At her shelter, Hajar also takes care of 100 extremely vulnerable cats: they are threatened by the lack of kibble, too!

%%%

"I take care of 100 cats at the shelter and more keep arriving, in deplorable states of health... I've had to reduce their kibble portions for weeks and I'm very worried about the side effects on them. They are starving, emaciated, weakened and some who were not already sick have fallen ill.

On top of that, the strongest and most dominant cats are getting all the kibble, the weakest ones are left with almost nothing to eat... I'm demoralised... Some of them have severe cases of coryza or ringworm and without kibble they will never get better and I would be distraught if they died from the lack of kibble!

I'm desperate for donations as I can't buy kibble for all the cats I feed! I take the most vulnerable and sick ones to the shelter, which requires a lot of vet visits to treat them... They really need kibble and I will be so relieved for them to get this delivery!"

4. Luna has a severe case of ringworm! She is very weak and will not be able to gain weight and heal if this campaign fails...

###

"Luna is a three-year-old cat that I rescued from the streets. She has an advanced stage of ringworm and suffers from skin allergies... When I took her in, she was also suffering from a heavy case of coryza, which really didn't help her case and left her very exhausted.

She is very fearful and I am extremely concerned about her condition... She is too thin and the lack of kibble is preventing her from gaining strength. She really needs this Animal Webaction delivery to get enough energy to heal."

5. Affected by inflation, Hajar has debts and lacks donations to cover cat-related expenses: she can't buy kibble!

###

"I don't have enough money to buy kibble for 180 cats... I have a lot of unpaid bills, but also huge debts with the pet shop and the vet, that I have to pay back if I want to buy more kibble and take care of the cats... Unfortunately, I can't afford it. I can no longer take new cats in distress in, under these circumstances. These times of inflation make my situation so difficult and it seriously impacts my actions for the cats...

The pools I organise are far from being a success and I have less and less donations. Only a handful of regular donors are still there to help me, which is always very appreciable and precious, but it's not enough to cover the cats' needs and buy them kibble. My shelter is in crisis and it will not survive without support and donations! It will only get worse and I won't be able to continue feeding the cats, if no one helps me..."

6. Hajar isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the cats from starving.

###

"I'm the only one who feeds the cats in different parts of the city and my help is essential for their survival... At the shelter, I am in charge of the cleaning, the care, the veterinary visits, the feeding... I also carry out sterilisation actions with street cats, to limit their population. Recently, I only do an average of 0 to 4 per month, which is very little given the number of strays. But it's still essential, even if only to raise awareness!

I don't have any support from the municipality, it's not their prerogative to help associations... I don't feel supported, facing everything alone is so hard: the cats are more and more numerous, hungry and suffering. It's impossible for me to continue to help and feed them without help! I can't even count on adoptions to relieve the shelter a little and allow me to take other cats in distress in: I've only had one since the beginning of the year. I'm very grateful to Animal Webaction for organising this campaign to help me save my cats..."

7. If this campaign is successful, Hajar will not receive any money but 920 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

8. Her few supporters are doing their maximum, but the donations Hajar gets aren't enough: this campaign is her last chance to feed the cats!

"An international organisation helps me with sterilisation and veterinary bills... This is the only organisation that supports me and although their help is precious, it does not allow me to collect kibble... My Facebook page is used to communicate on the cats' situation, at the shelter or on the streets, as well as to give news about their health.

I also regularly launch appeals for help to finance treatments and kibble, as I cannot manage these expenses alone. Since the economy has gone downhill, the fundraisers and collections I set up do not allow me to raise enough money: the donations are too low and I only have a few regular donors...

It's very hard in this context to get food for all the cats. Here, the State does not support animal protection... Without Animal Webaction's help to collect kibble, I will not be able to feed the cats in my shelter and in my city... Thank you to all those who will allow them to eat kibble!"

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail...

Liste des récoltes échouées

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund...

10. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many cats remain starving in the street!
