Animal Webaction visited the site 08 October 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I find an increasing number of abandoned dogs and puppies, it’s so sad! Now my shelter is absolutely overcrowded, with 400 dogs under my care… The kennels get fuller and fuller so it’s impossible to take more dogs in, unless they’re in absolute danger. It's a struggle to cover their many needs!
Besides, I have another major concern: I’m running out of kibble. I started to cut back on it a few weeks ago and there won’t be any left in 5 days… Dogs are cramped, hungry, and as the cold weather is coming, their appetite and behaviour will be even more affected! I fear serious consequences…
Kibble is too expensive for me to buy and lately, I’ve been getting almost no donation. My dogs are underfed with mixes of tiny kibble portions and leftovers… This campaign is my last and only solution to get kibble. I am very stressed and it will break my heart if I can’t feed my dogs…"
"My dogs’ kibble portions are so reduced that they’re famished… Even though I get a few leftovers from nearby restaurants each week, it only lasts for less than a day. And just like the cheap rice or old bread I feed them with at times, it’s too unhealthy, not nourishing and many of my dogs are underweight!
They’re already overcrowded and on edge, so hunger makes my dogs become aggressive… Fights are quick to happen and what a stressful situation it is, to hear barkings and having to run from one kennel to another, praying they’re not fighting or stopping them on time!
I fear the most for my sick or ageing dogs... They’re really the ones at risk with this lack of kibble! Their health declines fast and they face the great danger of being caught, injured or worse, killed in dog fights… Keeping my dogs safe and fed will only be possible if this kibble campaign succeeds!"
"Luky is a friendly two-year-old dog I rescued along with his sister. They were abused by their previous owners… Luky was severely malnourished and had several open wounds on his legs that hurt him so much he could barely stand and move. He had to spend two weeks at the vet clinic on IV treatment.
He has endured a lot of pain and deserves a better life for the years to come! His wounds have healed a little but he remains very thin for his size. He really needs this kibble delivery to put on weight and get the nutrients that are essential for his full recovery."
"I don’t have the money to buy kibble for 400 dogs... It’s just impossible now that donations have decreased: before the economy plunged, 50% of the shelter’s finances came from donations. Now, it has dropped to barely 10%! All cost items in life have become so expensive with inflation: kibble and vet care make no exception! It’s hard to juggle each shelter-related spending…
Unpaid bills and debts stack up, as I have no other choice but to prioritise food supply. Each time I pay an electricity bill or a surgery bill, it’s money that doesn’t go to kibble… And if my dogs have nothing or only unsuitable food to eat, they get sick and need vet care; it’s a vicious circle! Getting kibble to feed my dogs is my priority but I can’t do it alone, I need some help!"
"I’ve been passionate about animals and dogs from an early age and it was a logical consequence for me to open a shelter in my adulthood, taking my passion to the next level by saving vulnerable dogs. The shelter is one of the biggest in the area and its existence is crucial for the strays… It’s insane how many abandoned dogs are in the streets, some are very young or still puppies. I feel helpless, it’s hard not to lose faith in humanity!
I’m alone with one employee, running the shelter and rescuing dogs… It’s difficult with such a high number of dogs to take care of! It’s such a joy whenever I see one of my dogs getting adopted in a loving, comfortable home. But sadly, the abandonment rate is bigger than the adoptions. Local community should get more involved and supportive because strays are a social issue: these dogs’ lives are everyone’s responsibility…"
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"A German organisation helps me pay my employee’s salary and sometimes, they’re able to help me with other needs: kibble, vet bills, fosters and adoptions abroad… Their help is valuable but, as times are hard for them too, it’s unfortunately not enough to cover all the shelter’s expenses and dog’s needs… I have so many mouths to feed!
In Oradea, I’m also lucky to get the help from a corporation, which organises volunteering campaigns, once every two months, where their employees help me clean and fix the shelter… But when it comes to donations, apart from the restaurants providing some leftovers, I don’t get enough of them, there’s a real lack at a local level...
I organise fundraisers on Facebook to try and get some money for vet care, shelter’s bills and also kibble. Unfortunately, I struggle getting donations in this economic context… I’d be so grateful to every person who will make this kibble delivery happen and help me feed my dogs!"
