Animal Webaction visited the site 21 October 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"In the past, we used to fund kibble through donations from supermarket collections. We used to get enough food or money from these initiatives to support the dogs for several days or even a week. But now, every time we go, we barely get enough to feed them for one day..... It is insane!
The only explanation we can find is that people are afraid of the energy bills for this winter and are reluctant to spend money. This is terribly distressing for us. Our donations are constantly dropping and the price of kibble is constantly rising... The dogs have not been eating enough for weeks and with the temperatures dropping, their appetite has increased again!
If we have survived on very little until now, it has become impossible for us to continue without help... I cry almost every night and pray daily for our dogs. Our situation is beyond desperate, we absolutely need this campaign to succeed so we can feed our dogs!"
"Since our donations have dropped, we try to bring only the serious cases to the shelter, but unfortunately there are many...! The shelter is overcrowded, many kennels have more than 4 dogs, the dogs are stressed and to make matters worse, they are hungry... If we don't find a quick solution to increase their food portions, they will end up fighting!
Dogs need to eat a lot more than they are eating at the moment; especially as we have a lot of puppies, sick and old dogs... If they are not well fed, their recovery and even their quality of life will be severely affected. And if a fight gets out of hand and we are not there to stop it, it could be fatal... We desperately need help to be able to prevent this!"
"Noni is a 2-3 year old female, we found her in a field in a nearby town, tied to a post, without food or water... Despite a long discussion with her owners and their promise to improve the dog's living conditions, 2 weeks later when my husband and I returned, nothing had changed... It was even worse! The condition of the dog was more than deplorable, she was even more malnourished and thin.
We contacted the animal police and they came and confiscated the dog. Noni has been in our shelter ever since. We have been caring for her for almost a month, but she is still extremely thin. She still has a long road to recovery ahead of her and to get there she needs constant feeding, and in sufficient quantities! Without the success of this campaign, her chances of survival are unfortunately more than slim..."
"We are covered in debt, we have never had so much! We owe money to the vet, to close friends... to the construction company, to the waste management company. And the increase in fuel prices does not help because we need the car for everything! To go to the vet's, to make our collections in the shops... Sadly, given the success of the supermarket collections these days, it's as if we were travelling for nothing...
We can't pay off our debts and we can't take in any more dogs either. In the last 3 months we have not had any adoptions! The number of dogs we have in the shelter is increasing and all our costs are increasing consequently... These issues are not just going to go away in a couple of weeks and the issue is, with winter being just around the corner, we know our costs will increase even more. If some things can wait a little, food is not something that can be postponed! Our dogs are already hungry and they won't be able to withstand a longer deprivation...".
My husband and I are at the shelter 24 / 7 , we do everything for our dogs! Looking after so many animals on a daily basis is very hard but we find fulfilment in caring for them and giving them a better life. We just wish we had more volunteers and more adoptions, because even if our dogs are here safe from the dangers of the street, nothing compares to having a loving family...
Unfortunately for many people, the arrival of a dog in the family means an increase in the cost of living and this is not a responsibility they are willing, or able, to assume! It is a heartbreaker for us. Our dogs are all special in their own way and they all deserve the best... if only people would realise that!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"We are helped by two foreign organisations, they try to help us with adoptions and send us some donations of food, blankets or clothes. One of these organisations sends us 60 bags of kibble every quarter and the other one sends us about 50 bags a month, which is enough for a day and a half. The rest of the time, we go to the Lidl car park and try to collect food for our dogs, but our collections are not at all successful lately. Hardly anyone visits us or donates...
Online appeals for donations are not working much better. There are some people who try to sell old items to help us, but it doesn't amount to much. We can see that it is difficult for everyone at the moment... But as a non-profit organisation, we cannot survive without the generosity of others! I can't express how important the success of this campaign is to us, the lives of our dogs are at stake!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
