We cannot let the street cats and those at Corinne's shelter starve!

Disaster! In Morocco, Corinne has almost no kibble left to feed the street cats and those at her shelter, they will starve!

Animal Webaction visited the site 22 October 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Corinne is running out of kibble to feed the 600 street cats who depend on her. They will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

"I organise voluntary feeding rounds for more than 600 street cats across 22 districts. Their number keeps growing: constant abandonments, insufficient sterilisation, autumn breeding season barely over... It's a endless cycle! I can't get kibble anymore, so I've had to reduce the frequency of distribution and the portions for months...

The living conditions of these cats are awful: highly contagious, often fatal diseases are taking a toll on them (especially among kittens) and many lives are taken in traffic accidents... They are very fragile, frequently sick, handicapped and on top of that, they are regularly disgustingly tortured and mistreated...

They are starving and these cats eat everything they find and scavenge: this is disastrous for their health! Many of them have experienced indoor life before being abandoned on the streets, so they are very dependent on me for food. It's heartbreaking, I lack donations and without this campaign, the cats in my town will suffer and starve..."

2. At her shelter, Corinne also takes care of 250 extremely vulnerable cats: they are threatened by the lack of kibble, too!

%%%

"I take care of 250 cats at my shelter. This " steady " number hides a sad reality: for every newcomer, a shelter cat dies or disappears! Shelters like mine receive rescue requests for cats in distress all the time, but with less and less money, it's becoming difficult to take them all in, care for them and feed them...

On top of that, once again due to a lack of funds, I have to make "Cornelian choices": I can no longer take kittens who are strong enough to manage on the street. Now I only take the most vulnerable and sick ones in. Veterinary care has increased too much and it is even more expensive to care for a kitten than an adult cat!

I have reduced the quality and quantity I give to the cats and it affects their health: they are sensitive to these variations, they have trouble digesting and lose weight! But as I have no more advance stock, I ration. Without this delivery, my cats, who are already very fragile, will not make it: it is vital for them to eat well!"

3. Gilbert suffers from a severe case of coryza: nearly blind, his survival depends on this kibble delivery!

###

"Gilbert is a friendly cat who was spotted in the street by one of the "district godmothers"... He has a severe case of chronic coryza! He can hardly see anything, shapes or shadows at most. He needs constant and reinforced care and attention because relapses are frequent...

He is slowly adapting to his blindness: he does not move around much because he is rather scared. Life on the street would have put him in great danger! He now depends entirely on me to survive and his treatments cannot be effective without kibble..."

4. Corinne can no longer cope with the sharp drop in donations and the rise in prices: without kibble, she will no longer be able to continue her work with the cats!

###

"I struggle to cover the shelter's expenses with donations from abroad and sponsorships: they are significantly decreasing and almost exclusively used for veterinary expenses (treatments, vaccinations, sterilisations, operations...). All my savings go into buying kibble and they are melting because of the exorbitant prices!

Locally, as far as donations in kind are concerned, and especially food, I receive very little: animal welfare is not really a priority in people's minds... I receive no donations whatsoever to feed street cats and quite frankly, I'm already cutting into the shelter's food budget!

I can't sleep at night when I think that I have less and less money to help the cats, to look after them and to feed them... Kibble go hand in hand with veterinary care: a cat who doesn't eat quickly gets sick... If this campaign succeeds, it will be a real breath of fresh air for me and for all the cats I look after!"

5. Corinne is not asking for money, only kibble to prevent the cats from starving.

###

"Animal misery has progressively brought animals into my home and with the extent that it took, the shelter was created rather naturally... There is no turning back for me: I live with my cats and look after them every day, 24 hours a day... They need me! My daily routine is based on their lives; my first reflex in the morning is to check who has died, who has disappeared, who has become even sicker... It's very demanding! Every day, I run everywhere to take care of the cats, to look after them, to prepare the "district godfathers and godmothers"'s rounds...

And I'm constantly running after money and donations to keep going! But it's rewarding to feel useful, to bring love and comfort to these neglected beings. I can't bear to look away from the misery and violence that cats suffer in the streets... However, recently, I had a glimmer of hope when I saw young children petting and taking care of street cats, very spontaneously... I tell myself that my actions to help cats (sterilizations, care, feeding) are far from being in vain! Only, it is very hard to continue when you are short of resources..."

6. If this campaign is successful, Corinne will not receive any money but 920 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Despite her calls for help, Corinne has run out of resources to feed the cats: this campaign is their last hope!

###

"Apart from my long-standing partner in Switzerland who helps me sterilise street cats, I don't have any other organisations that support me... The appeals for donations I make don't work well so it's getting harder and harder to get food for the cats. The street cats rely on the district godmothers and godfathers, but the latter rely on me to provide them with food. It deeply affects me to have to distribute less to them because of my dwindling stock.

I can't even extend the feeding area as things stand, it's dramatic! I try to raise awareness about the cats' fate and I don't have any subsidy to carry out my actions... The survival of the cats in this town is never assured and it relies on a handful of good souls... My lack of means is a source of daily anguish and it directly impacts all the cats in my care! Without support, I won't be able to feed them..."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail...

Liste des récoltes échouées

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund...

9. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many cats remain starving in the street!
