Animal Webaction visited the site 31 October 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I've recently moved the location of my shelter, I am new in this area but it didn't take long for people to know my address... The number of dogs under my care keeps on increasing because people casually throw their dogs over my fence! I have more dogs and of course I should be feeding them more but I cannot...
Kibble prices have increased a lot, people have cut down their costs and we barely receive any donations at all! My current stock of kibble will last a couple of more days at most, with maximum cutting. Our situation is very very bad. I have already had to cancel some rescues because I can't even feed the dogs I have properly... We're not prepared to face the cold Romanian winter and even less so with an impeding food shortage...
I'm exhausted, upset, scared, helpless... I cannot manage on my own, I don’t have the resources! It’s very stressful not knowing if I will manage to care for my dogs over the next period or not... My dogs need food to be able to survive the colder days, and I won't be able to provide it without your help!"
"My dogs currently eat cheap dry food that I found on discount... and dry bread. They're eating reduced portions, the equivalent of what they would have needed on hotter days. But as the cold temperatures start to befall upon us, what they eat currently is definitely not enough to meet their nutritional needs! Some of them have started losing weight, others are throwing up...
Aggressivity among the dogs is also growing, along to the rythm of their stomachs rumbling... I need to find a solution quickly otherwise I know too well what will happen! The fights will escalate, dogs will get sick, lose even more weight and some might even die...They all need food to be warm, healthy and survive the cold winter days!"
"Lucky is a 5-year-old female. Someone made a Facebook post about her, she was hit by a car and lying on the street for 2 days... Somebody called me up knowing that I have some experience with paralyzed dogs. That's how she arrived in my shelter, a few months back.
She has severe heart problems and she’s paralyzed because of the accident. Her spine and legs are completely broken! Lucky is a happy girl but underneath it all, her health is very, very fragile. If I don't find any kibble, she will lose weight and her health condition will deteriorate very fast..."
"My donations are down because of the inflation and I have very few sponsors. Out of my 64 dogs, only 3 are sponsored... Before, I had some contracts with supermarkets that were helping me with food but this aid stopped last year. Ever since the pandemic, now the war... everything is becoming harder because I don't have the same support as before.
There's an increasing number of dogs on the street, at my shelter, and adoptions have stopped... Not just for my shelter, but for many. The global situation is affecting people's financial security, there are less people who are able to adopt and generally speaking, I think people's minds are elsewhere, they are focused on their own problems.
I have more dogs in my care now and I can no longer save other dogs either. I need more support! My dogs need more support... People do great things with people but nobody achieves something big on their own!"
"I first got involved in animal protection because I wished to save animals that needed help; they're all over the country! My biggest wish was also to sterilize as many dogs as possible from the area I lived in. In practice, it's far less easy than it sounds... But over the years, I still managed to sterilize many, and I'm now in a partnership with a Belgian association to try and sterilize as many as possible in the area.
Since the beginning of my involvement, I've helped people understand that it’s normal and good to sterilize their animals. I also contributed to educating people on how to treat their animals, and that they have feelings too. I managed to slightly change people’s mentalities. Some people are now coming to me to ask if they can leave their dogs at the shelter, of course many others still don't even bother asking, but I have to appreciate small changes as they come...
Unfortunately, generally speaking, I’m encountering a lot of negative feelings and behavior from people. I'm not rewarded for what I do, in fact people make it clear that I am bothering them. But at the end of the day, I know that shelters like mine are needed. Dogs need help and there are not so many organizations that do that, or they are not enough for the number of abandoned dogs anyways. I know I need to be involved."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I had a collaboration with a French organisation until 3 weeks ago but they stopped helping due to lack of funds. I tried to contact other organizations but nobody can help. Everybody is limiting the help they provide due to the global situation...
The fundraisers I organize aren't successful either, with the last one I barely managed to raise 200 euros. I pretty much tried everything I could. I reached out to different associations, I conducted fundraising... Nothing works or it's just not successful enough to meet the needs of my 64 dogs! I know only this campaign can help... and I truly hope it will because we need it desperatly."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The organizer doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
