Animal Webaction visited the site 03 November 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I take care of more than 80 street dogs in different districts. I don't have enough means to vaccinate and sterilise them all at the moment, so their number keeps increasing with each new litter... Now their situation is getting worse: they are being chased away by the population and the authorities will carry out mass slaughters because the dogs are starving...
I do my best to protect and feed them, but it's unbearable! I can't buy kibble anymore and now I can only feed them once every two days at best. All I can give them are chicken heads and legs... They are sick and famished!
The lack of food makes them very aggressive towards each other, and even towards humans... The fights are violent and sometimes fatal, in the packs: their survival instinct takes over. I suffer knowing that they are waiting for me every day to eat while I often have nothing to give them! A sinister fate awaits them if this campaign fails..."
"Figma is a three-year-old dog who lives in the street like an outcast. As is often the case with dogs severely affected by scabies, he is chased away by the population... Because of his poor condition, every second counts: he is at risk of being picked up and killed, at the initiative of the inhabitants who do not want him.
He is kind but very shy and it is very difficult to approach him. He is very thin and in a terrible shape. It is essential that this campaign succeeds so that he can eat properly and that I can create a trusting relationship to care for him. A failed campaign will most certainly mean his death."
"I take care of 40 dogs at the shelter and they are suffering a lot from the lack of kibble: they are starving, weak, skeletal and getting sick! What also really concerns me are the fights that break out because of hunger. These situations are alarming and can quickly degenerate...
There are too many dogs for the available space and their number is not decreasing. My shelter's dogs are all rescues: they are very vulnerable and not eating their fill only makes them weaker and prone to diseases. Not to mention there are also female dogs who are nursing their babies!
I am very worried because in a few days I will be out of kibble. I don't know what to do about it anymore... My most fragile dogs and those under treatment are not going to survive for long on the meagre portions I give them. Leftovers and stale bread are not healthy for them... If this campaign fails, it will be disastrous for my dogs!"
"Kawkawa is a four-year-old dog who has spent most of her life in the shelter... With humans, she is very gentle. But in the pack, she is defenceless and very submissive: the other dogs reject her. Other females have already attacked her several times...
As she is not a member of the pack, she has a lot of trouble feeding herself: she often only has pieces of old bread left to eat... She is so skinny and weak, she will not be able to gain weight and strength without this delivery!"
"I feel unable to continue without means and I am powerless when I see my dogs fighting for a tiny handful of kibble... I only have a small salary which does not allow me to buy kibble anymore; I suffer from inflation just like the donors: I do not have donations anymore. Animals are not a priority for most people in my town. My calls for help are often in vain...
I postpone sterilisations because I already have a lot of debts (kibble supplier, vet, rent...). Everything has become unaffordable! My financial situation is far too fragile to allow me to buy kibble for all the dogs I look after... I fall into depression at the thought of not being able to feed them. They need that kibble delivery, if only to stay alive!"
"I have a very strong bond with the dogs I take care of, whether on the streets or in my shelter. In the end, I consider them a bit like my "babies". These are always wonderful moments when I feed them! I have a lot of empathy for them and at the moment I feel they are all suffering a lot. It has become impossible to do the daily feeding rounds in the streets, not so much because of the lack of volunteers, but because the lack of kibble is real!
I get no help or support from the local community. Street dogs are a sad example of this, as mass slaughters don't seem to shock people too much... Street feeding is really useful mainly to "calm" people down, who are less hostile towards dogs when they are appeased and fed. With this campaign, I hope to reassure people about dogs, so that they don't call the authorities and sentence them to death..."
