Animal Webaction visited the site 20 November 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, people were adopting dogs because they wanted a companion but now they are abandoning them en masse! Pascani is also a transient city, which only makes things worse; it seems like everyone is choosing to abandon their dogs here! The number of abandoned dogs is ever increasing, and with it, the number of dogs in our shelter...
Our shelter is completely overcrowded, it is more and more difficult to welcome new dogs because we lack space, but our biggest difficulty is without a doubt the lack of kibble! We have received very few donations lately, kibble is incredibly expensive and our supplier does not allow us to pay on credit either...
Our dogs are eating rationed portions of kibble and this has been going on for several weeks already. They are starving... and with winter and the temperatures dropping, they will not be able to survive much longer on an empty stomach! We are heading for disaster and we need your help to be able to prevent it!"
"Hunger makes my dogs aggressive! The portions they get are not enough to satisfy them so as soon as the food distribution comes, they fight... everyone is trying to eat their fill and protect the resources they need to survive. Several dogs have been injured in fights lately and if I don't find a way to increase their kibble portions, I know that the situation will soon get out of hand...
Several of my dogs are also sick with parvovirus or leptospirosis; these viruses are particularly virulent! Without an abundant and quality food, their recovery will be impossible and their very survival will be questioned... The lack of kibble has multiple repercussions on my dogs and none of them are positive...
Personally, I have health issues to deal with as well but not being able to provide for my dogs is what overwhelms me the most. I feel terrible... I rescue dogs and bring them here to have a better life, not the other way around! I feel like a failure... I need your help so I can save my dogs!"
"Bello is a 10-month-old dog. I found him on the outskirts of town with his mother and brothers, they were obviously all abandoned there. Bello was doing relatively well until recently, when he was attacked by other dogs in the shelter... It happened exactly the same way as usual, he tried to eat and was bitten hard by another dog trying to protect his resources.
Bello's jaw was broken in the fight and he has visible injuries all over his face and body... He is still very traumatized by this event. It is absolutely essential that I can get enough kibble to keep everyone happy, otherwise the fights will escalate and Bello's life may not be spared next time...".
"We have received very few donations lately. Inflation is surely the cause, because people focus on their own needs and those of their families. But we are also affected by inflation, everything we need to care for the dogs has become more expensive - kibble, medicine, surgeries... while our donations keep decreasing!
Our adoptions are also very low, which means we are not able to take in any more dogs in need right now. We don't have enough space, and most importantly, we don't even have enough to feed them! We've also had to cancel vitamin and medicine administration and some sterilizations for the dogs at the shelter because our veterinary debts are sky high and we can't pay them back...
Our kibble supplier won't allow us to buy on credit either. Other than posting on Facebook and asking for your help, there's not much else I can do at this point... No one here brings me kibble willingly! This campaign has to work, for my dogs' sake."
"I helped create this association because many dogs were being killed and euthanized in the city... The city hall was not doing anything for the dogs, so we took the matter in our own hands. The association was created in 2009, with the mission to sterilize as many animals as possible and in 2018, we decided to create our little associative shelter. A few years later, this tiny shelter has become as big as it can be!
From the very beginning, I have been very involved in this shelter and continue to do so every day. I am constantly fighting for the welfare of the dogs and for an increase in the spay/neuter rate. Over the years, we have been able to save many dogs, which, coupled with our sterilization efforts, has helped reduce the number of stray dogs and make the city a safer, and more peaceful place.
The sense of accomplishment I feel with each rescue is incomparable, but I sometimes feel discouraged when I see how far we still have to go... Many people still don't realize how important it is to sterilize their dogs, and how counterproductive it is to abandon the puppies! People need to understand that their actions have consequences, and that only by changing their bad habits, real change happen."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We receive help from the French group "Les Oubliés de Roumanie". Its few members try to help us with adoptions and fundraising, but even though they do their best, their means are limited and they too are affected by the current world situation. Our adoptions are few and although we have just over 100 Teamers helping us monthly, when you compare that to the number of dogs we care for, it's not enough!
Not having enough kibble to feed my dogs is my biggest fear and unfortunately, it is no longer a fear, it is reality! We need encouragement to have the strength to continue and more help to be able to feed our dogs... The success of this campaign is needed on all levels!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
