Animal Webaction visited the site 19 November 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I have 290 dogs at the shelter and their number is increasing… For months and months, now, the declining economy keeps on bringing back the same issue (our biggest) ever again: the lack of kibble. I feel so overwhelmed, my purchasing power has never been so low and I can no longer buy kibble for my dogs.
My remaining stock is depleting fast and although I’ve been reducing the dogs’ kibble portions for months, I have to ration them even more now! I post on social media every day in order to ask for kibble, because it’s what I need the most all the time. I have reached the end of donations and support, whether in the form of money or in-kind.
I only have enough kibble for just another day, now. It’s too difficult, I’m constantly struggling to cover the dogs' most basic needs that are necessary for their well-being. At this point, I’m afraid I’m on the verge of mental and physical breakdown… I can’t let that happen, the dogs count on me, they need me to survive and to eat! This kibble campaign can’t fail!”
"My dogs aren’t eating “normal”, healthy quantities of kibble because I stretch my remaining stock in order to be able to feed them. They get such low amounts of kibble they have no chance to build up enough strength and energy! Besides, it’s very low quality and their needs in nutrients and calories aren’t covered either.
I’m very concerned about the side effects of this kibble issue on their health. Many of my dogs are losing a lot of weight… Some even have serious intestinal issues, while others have been developing nasty skin conditions. On top of that, winter is coming, it’s already very cold and the weakest of my dogs can’t make it without proper kibble!
The dogs are getting more underfed and nervous each day, so I'm definitely on the alert - they fought over food not so long ago and I dread those dangerous situations so much! To avoid any escalation and keep the dogs from further weight loss and illnesses, they need this campaign to succeed!"
"Colt has been at the shelter for a while, he’s a friendly dog who’s ageing. He has an advanced cataract on his left eye and can’t see anything with this eye… He recently developed a huge tumour on his leg, and although it was surgically removed, he needs lots of rest and good amounts of quality kibble to recover properly. He’s not a young dog and it is crucial for him to get this kibble delivery, so he can serenely live through the winter. Without kibble, his very survival will be compromised…”
“With inflated prices worldwide, people are trying to save money and donate way less and less often, meanwhile the number of causes that require help keeps increasing… It’s hard for me to continue rescuing and feeding dogs in such a context, so I have no other alternative than indebting myself. I have huge debts at the vet clinic, especially for all the surgeries to save dogs’ lives… Still, without resources, there are just so many things I cannot pay for in terms of essential medical care like vaccines, testing, etc…
My ability to supply kibble is impacted the most by my lack of financial means. Despite trying different approaches to get some support, I’ve only been receiving very scarce donations in the last months, when I get some. Therefore, I’m unable to take care of more dogs at the moment, there’s just not enough kibble to feed more of them. The struggle is already real with almost 300 dogs, so I desperately rely on this campaign’s success to guarantee that my dogs have kibble to eat for a while."
"I first joined the association almost 10 years ago and became its vice-president a few years later. We are 9 volunteers working at the shelter, so there’s always someone who can intervene and take care of the dogs… The idea behind the creation of this shelter was really to rescue abandoned dogs and offer them a little help, a roof and a caring environment. I strongly believe they deserve to find a loving home… But in this country, the number of stray dogs is increasing : it’s still a major difficulty to raise awareness of the sterilisation issue.
Puppies and old dogs are continuously abandoned and the authorities still do nothing to prevent these. Public shelters are allowed to euthanise dogs after 14 days if no one comes to adopt them but the truth is these dogs aren’t even promoted anywhere! To some of our dogs, we are family for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, some are getting old and I’m so afraid they’ll never have the chance to get adopted and eventually stay there until the end. Whenever I get some news and photos from one of my rescues who got adopted, seeing them happy and loved reminds me that all the efforts to save their lives was worth it"
Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
“The help I get from the shelter’s main partner from Germany has unfortunately decreased lately. They cannot help me with the expenses as much as they used to and can only sporadically send me smaller amounts of kibble. They are sadly affected by the economic context too and despite doing their best for the shelter, it is not enough to cover what the dogs currently need on a steady basis… I contacted other organisations to ask for help but only got negative answers.
One organisation even suggested that I organise online contests with prizes to win - but I can’t even buy kibble for the dogs, so how could I pay those gifts and the shipping fees?... I use social media to collect kibble and to try and raise funds, but the latest attempts have been unsuccessful and didn’t allow me to raise enough for what the dogs need. I sincerely hope that this campaign will succeed to relieve a huge burden and help feed the dogs.“
