Animal Webaction visited the site 10 December 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"At the shelter we have hay, pens and kennels where the dogs can be isolated from the rain, snow and wind to face the winter. But our biggest challenge is the supply of kibble... This is the one thing our dogs need the most, and the one thing we can't seem to solve! We need at least 80 kg per day, but with inflation, we are now spending much more money, for less kibble...
Our donations have also decreased because most people at the moment are thinking about their own survival. Right now we have enough to feed our dogs for the next two days, with low portions of kibble mixed with bread... This diet is far from suitable!
Kibble supply has always been a problem, but lately the pressure has become unbearable! Every day we wake up with fear in our stomachs wondering how we are going to feed our dogs... Our personal resources are exhausted and the few donations we receive are far too few. This campaign is our only hope to feed the dogs properly this winter!"
"We always do our best to give our dogs enough food but at the moment we can't do it anymore! Our dogs are fed poor quality kibble and dry bread, and we can't reduce the portions any more than we already do... The lack of quality and quantity is very bad for them and there is no worse timing: dogs need to eat a lot more to be able to face the winter!
The consequences are already visible, the dogs lack protein, their fur is not shiny, they have diarrhoea... and if we don't get more help, the consequences to come will be much more disastrous! Many of our dogs are vulnerable and need this delivery more than anything... Getting this kibble is literally a matter of life and death for them!
I respect everyone who has helped us so far, but with the few donations we are currently receiving, we simply cannot buy enough kibble... We need more help and we hope that with this campaign, people will be able to see our suffering, and prevent our dogs from suffering in turn..."
"We found Zuca near the highway, that's where he used to live, wandering around daily looking for food... Zuca's life has not been easy and now his advanced age is starting to catch up with him. He is blind in one eye, has trouble getting around and has recently started to suffer from skin allergies. It is absolutely crucial that Zuca is fed high quality kibble to go through the winter... "
"Our donations were never big, but now they are even lower than before! We receive some small, inconsistent donations that cover about 20% of our monthly needs. The rest is being funded directly from our personal resources, which are unfortunately far from inexhaustible... After COVID, our individual incomes got lowered, which means we have less and less personal funds. Our money also used to have more value initially but now due to inflation, it doesn’t... We have no choice but to go into debt, and we certainly have a lot of those...
We currently owe several thousand euros to various kibble suppliers and the same goes for vets. And due to inflation, food companies and vets have no patience for debts either, which means they ask us to pay everything on the spot... and this is absolutely impossible for us! After all these years of work, sweat and tears, having to beg to feed our dogs is really hard, but that's the situation we are in! We really need this campaign to succeed, because we have no other alternative to be able to feed our dogs...".
"I have always had an affection for dogs and animals in general. When I went to Europe and saw the way dogs were treated there, I couldn't help but compare it with the situation in Serbia, and I realized very quickly that dogs here are very heavily neglected... Together with my friend Snezana, we started from scratch with this shelter and for 15 years now we have been campaigning, fighting, educating and promoting free sterilisation in order to reduce animal suffering to a minimum. But unfortunately, everything we do seems to be a drop in the sea...
There are still too many stray and abandoned dogs, people from other municipalities even come here to get rid of the problem! Many abandoned dogs still die from poisoning, being hit or run over by cars, hunger and various diseases. The situation is getting worse and we feel like we are losing this fight.
We are 100% committed to our dogs, all our spare time is spent on them and we put our hearts into it. The dogs are our responsibility and despite all the difficulties in choosing this life, we can't decide to close the shelter door and stop everything overnight... The emotions are too strong and our dogs are our only concern, we have to fight for them, since they can't do it themselves!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Lately our calls for help have not been working and we think this is largely due to people being worried about the energy crisis and to a greater extent, their own existence. The only good news we've had in the past few months is the start of a collaboration with a German organization, which helps us find homes for our dogs. So far we have been able to send 5 dogs to Germany and we really hope that we'll be able to find good homes for many more!
But until adoptions can potentially speed up, we still have 150 dogs under our roof, some of whom have been with us for many years, and they all need to eat! Snezana and I have overcome all our problems one way or another, but food is the only difficulty we face all the time, and more and more frequently... We have already tried everything to find help but nothing works enough to allow us to feed our dogs in the long term... Only this campaign can!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
