Animal Webaction visited the site 10 December 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I take care of 350 dogs and sadly, their number has been increasing lately: the high abandonment rate exceeds by far the adoption rate. The current situation at the shelter is challenging: we don't have enough support to meet so many dogs’ needs and since our last Animal Webaction campaign failed, I really dread another failure with this one!
Currently, I mostly feed them with low-quality kibble, which is the only type I can afford with my decreased resources. Now, I only have enough left for two more days, yet, I've been cutting back the dogs’ portions for a couple of months… I worry a lot as they clearly don’t eat their fill!
Securing kibble for all my dogs is my main difficulty as I’m confronted with a big decline in sponsorships. And in these inflationary times, I fight to keep my dogs safe and fed: I feel sad and uncertain about my ability to do so on a day-to-day basis… My dogs really deserve this kibble delivery for Christmas! It would be the best gift ever, knowing they’ll get food for the winter!”
"I'm concerned that my dogs aren’t eating enough at the moment, especially since they need more sustenance during the harsh winter months, in order to stay warm and in good physical, but also mental, condition… And the lack of kibble already has consequences on them: they can't gain any weight and the freezing temperatures will take a toll on them, as they need much more calories to build up the necessary energy to face this season.
Another major concern at the shelter is that the stronger dogs will get more aggressive with hunger; the smaller, more submissive or weaker dogs will therefore be the first victims of this kibble issue… Meanwhile, street dogs are facing even more difficult living conditions that will only get worse as days get colder… I feel helpless and powerless to improve their situation: if my shelter’s dogs starve, I’ll be even less able to support the strays! My heart will break to see them all suffer... If I can't find any more kibble, the consequences will be dire for many dogs!"
"Arthur has been living at the shelter for the past 6 years... His story is somewhat of a mystery, but he was brought here from a public pound, while still very young. His health isn’t in the best condition: he has chronic otitis, which causes him great discomfort and requires treatment…
While being comfortable around other dogs, he’s not as receptive to humans, he’s always been scared and prefers to avoid them! He definitely had a tough past and sadly, his chances of getting adopted are extremely low… If I can’t provide Arthur with kibble, he may not survive on his own: he really just has me and the shelter to stay healthy, warm and fed."
"It's been hard lately to get donations, as I’ve been losing sponsors and only have the same, few people helping the shelter for years in the limits of their abilities… The impact of inflation has also been significant: I’m in debt to the vet and the kibble supplier.
Even if a large portion of my budget goes towards buying kibble, it’s never enough to have a steady supply! I've been trying to fundraise for kibble, begging for help, but it's unpredictable and feels like a lottery as to whether or not I'll receive anything!
I wish I had more options or more sponsors to help out... It's hard for me to watch the dogs go hungry when I know I can't provide for them! I don’t want to give up on them so, right now, I don't see any other solution but this campaign, in order to get kibble…”
"I created this shelter to provide a safe place for abandoned dogs... It's my corner of paradise, a place where I feel surrounded by love and hope! In Romania, authorities would often rather kill strays instead of sterilising them, while not properly applying the laws regarding the abandonment of pets…
I can't manage everything on my own, and even though I have four volunteers who help me, it’s not enough for so many dogs! I've reached out to the local community for help with donations, volunteering, or adoptions, but it wasn’t successful… The local attitudes towards dogs haven't improved much!
It's hard to continue my actions with no local or government support. Yet, my shelter is crucial: without it, many dogs would end up on the streets or in a public shelter, where they would surely die in both cases… Challenges are ongoing, but I want to do my best to continue caring for these dogs!”
Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I do have one partnership that helps a bit, by providing a small amount of money each month, which is a big help, but unfortunately not enough to cover all of the shelter’s expenses and dogs’ needs. Besides, I have many dogs under my care and the majority are unsponsored… My fundraising attempts and appeals for help on Facebook are inconsistent and too randomly answered to gather enough resources!
It's been a tough year, and adoptions aren’t doing well… And yet, I keep on rescuing dogs because I feel it’s my duty to help them, despite my huge financial struggles! It hits me hard when I see dogs who have been in my kennels for a long time and who may never be adopted because of their damaging, traumatic past… I hope I’ll find partner organisations to help me with adoptions and covering all my dogs’ most basic needs… I’m thankful to everyone who will help make this campaign a success!”
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
