Animal Webaction visited the site 13 December 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I take care of more than 95 cats in the districts of Temara and their number is increasing as there are a lot of abandonments lately... Many pregnant females, kittens or sick cats end up outside...
At this time of the year, the cats face colder temperatures and rain, they have no shelter, which makes their survival all the more difficult... They are constantly exposed to parasites and dangerous diseases, such as coryza or typhus, as well as malnourishment.
Unfortunately, I can no longer afford to feed them enough! In just a few days, my kibble stock will be empty... I even had to reduce the portions given to the cats, as well as the frequency of my feeding rounds... I am sad when I think of these cats' fate. I have nightmares about them; not being able to get kibble for them makes me feel desperate..."
"I've been forced to ration the kibble I give my cats for nearly three weeks now... I'm worried because, with such scarcer meals, they don't eat enough! This lack of kibble has already had consequences: the cats are more aggressive, they fight and the strongest ones take the weakest ones' portions... Survival instinct now prevails within the groups of cats!
Moreover, the cats are more vulnerable, their coat is not beautiful, not very well furnished and their immune defences are decreasing... This is the perfect ground for scabies epidemics or other very contagious infections and viruses... The health of the weakest and sickest cats is going to get worse if they stay in this state of malnutrition! I feel helpless and gutted that I can't do anything when I see these starving cats... It is essential that this campaign succeeds so that the cats can face the coming weeks with serenity!"
"Tonio is a 3-year-old male who lives among the rubbish... His coat is really ugly, it is matted and dirty. He doesn't eat enough and often very badly as he feeds in the garbage: malnutrition makes him lose more weight every time!
He is very wild and fearful and I am one of the few people who can approach him to feed him. I don't have a shelter for him, unfortunately. He is not healthy enough to survive much longer without kibble. He will continue to lose weight and become seriously ill..."
"At the moment, my business of selling cat accessories is not doing very well... Usually, it was mainly donations that financed my actions of rescue and feeding of the cats, but they have decreased a lot lately! They don't allow me to cover my expenses anymore... The person who used to help me with sterilisations is also suffering from the lack of donations and I can't afford to have cats sterilised anymore...
The situation is very critical at the moment, I'm also heavily in debt with my vet... I need people's support, as the associations and people involved in animal protection like myself are in great difficulty because of the current crisis... Now, I don't see any other solution than this Animal Webaction collection to get kibble and prevent the cats from suffering from hunger!"
"I have always had a deep affection for cats and animals in general... I learned to take care of them with my parents and helping them brings me a lot of happiness! I have seen too often sick and weak cats wandering in the streets, or kittens abandoned in cardboard boxes... This pushed me to act and to set up initiatives to help these cats, by caring for them, vaccinating them and feeding them.
I can't do sterilisations as I used to, although this is crucial to improve the well-being and living conditions of street cats! Here, often due to lack of means or sense of responsibility, people do not sterilise or care for their cats and opt for abandonment. Street cats proliferate and spread diseases in all the neighbourhoods... I sometimes feel a bit alone in my fight for these cats; I really need help to be able to continue protecting and helping these stray cats!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I don't receive any local or national support. The Straycare International organisation used to help me sterilise cats, but this is no longer possible for them, at the moment, as they're severely underfunded... I am constantly looking for help to continue my work with stray cats.
I have already contacted other people and organisations, but without success... I post appeals for help and unpaid bills on my Facebook page, in the hope of finding generous people who can help me pay them. Times are hard for many people and often these approaches don't work very well...
The lack of means is my main problem and prevents me from carrying out my projects, such as the creation of a shelter or the setting up of sterilisation/vaccination campaigns. Without an association or organisation to help me, the cats will remain sick and hungry in the streets..."
