Animal Webaction visited the site 17 December 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"I always strive to provide my dogs with sufficient amounts of food but it has become really hard lately. Only my mother and I take care of the dogs and our personal resources are very limited. To make matters worse, there is a bad economic situation worldwide: the war, the rising prices. People have other concerns than donating for dogs… So naturally, our donations have also decreased significantly.
Right now I have enough kibble to last a week at most and I’ve been stretching it for about a month already… The dogs are eating rationed portions. It’s winter and this situation cannot last, my dogs need to eat their fill to face the cold!
Facing a food shortage at this time of year is the most stressful thing there is... I lay awake at night and I’m terrified because I know that if this campaign fails, I won’t have the means to provide enough kibble to my dogs for the period to come… I need this campaign to succeed to be able to feed all the dogs in the shelter and give them the care they need!”
"My dogs have been eating poor quality kibble in small portions for the past month.... This is unfortunately all I can offer them in this difficult period. The consequences are already visible: this food is literally going right through them, the dogs have diarrhea, some are vomiting...they are all getting weaker!
I always have to juggle priorities and determine which aspect is more critical or important: the illness of some dogs or the lack of kibble for all... The fact is that good health depends on both! I am very stressed because of this and I am especially worried about the many old dogs I take care of...
And then, without even enough kibble for the dogs in my shelter, I can't help the ones outside either... In the last few months, many dogs have been abandoned in the streets and many of them have health problems. I want to help them but I can't... Suppose I take them to the shelter, then what? I couldn't even feed them! Street dogs die because I can't help them, and the dogs in my shelter are getting weaker every day because of the lack of kibble... They all need this delivery!"
"I found Fetita in a field near my house. She was beaten by a neighbor, so badly that she is now paralyzed... Despite her condition, Fetita is a lovely and sociable dog, both with humans and with other dogs! Unfortunately, I know that there is very little chance that she will ever be adopted. Dogs like her need a lot of care, and Fetita is also getting old... She is 9 years old now and she will depend entirely on me to survive the rest of her life. Good nutrition is paramount for her, she will not be able to survive a Romanian winter on reduced portions of kibble..."
"Since the pandemic, our donations have decreased considerably. Some friends help me from time to time, but they can't contribute to all the expenses of the shelter... Also, because of the economic crisis, I sometimes feel embarrassed to ask people for money to take care of my animals.... Everyone is in a difficult situation at the moment.
However, I have no choice but to keep asking, as I am entirely dependent on the goodwill of others to survive and continue caring for my dogs. I used to earn a salary, but now serious health problems prevent me from working. I can only rely on my mother's small pension to cover the dogs' needs - and it's not nearly enough!
My mother and I live in very basic conditions ourselves. Our house is in a very bad state, we don't even have running water or electricity. To be honest, my only real fortune is my dogs! I want to give them the best possible living conditions but I need help to do so... During the winter months, my dogs have to eat more to withstand the cold, but no one can help me to provide sufficient quantities for my dogs... It is imperative that this campaign succeeds, it is the only solution!"
"When the law on euthanasia of stray dogs was passed in Bucharest, I decided to bring all the street dogs I was taking care of, to the yard of my grandmother's house, where my mother and I now live. Seeing that I had dogs, the people of the village no longer abandoned their dogs on the side of the road, but came to leave them directly in front of my gate instead! And it is still the case... For them, it's the easy way out, but for me, having to take care of so many dogs alone is a very difficult task.
Until people realize that it is their responsibility to spay and neuter their pets and take care of them until their last day, the problems will remain the same... Animals are good souls and voiceless, they need to be cared for and they don't deserve the abuse they receive in our country..."
